Re: Expansion
"With the current cold temps our snowmaking team is pushing our system to its limits working 24/7 to get us open for top to bottom skiing to the K-1 base area real soon."
Re: Expansion
Exactly. Killington papers over this by making snow over the course of 5 months, while most resorts make snow for 3 to 4 months. I guess they content with a system sized to spend their snowmaking budget in a 5 month window.DrJeff wrote: ↑Nov 20th, '23, 16:09Hate to break it to you, but in it's current state, while still impressive in size, K isn't the undisputed "big dog" of New Enlgand snowmaking anymore.
K would likely need to double the size of it's system with resprct to pumping capacity, main line water feed size, air, and add a BIG number of automated and some semi automated guns to remotely approach that 600 number, let alone be able to hire LOTS more snowmakers as well. Likely talking an investment of tens of millions to be able to attempt to make that happen across the resort
They had 6 guns today on the jump/air bag next to Superstar running today. Those guns would have been nice today at the top of Rime.

Loon will be open on Wendesday, I am assuming top to bottom from North Peak to the Octagon base. Gondola will be running with no downloading. Interesting concept...

As a Mount Snow regular, I saw and have experienced 1st hand now 4 or 5 seasons ago what a MEGA upgrade in pumping capacity combined with an annual serious investment in new snowguns annually means when they brought their West Lake Project on line.
You are likely going to see some BIG things from Sunday River this year now that their multi year upgrade project to get WAY more water out towards Jordan Bowl is now done.. The same guy who engineered the Mount Snow project, Brendan Ryan, after a few years while still an employee of Peak Resorts oversaw also the big (for them) upgrades at Wildcat before he jumped ship to Boyne after Vail chose not to keep various Peak folks on (they lost some quality talent often over their lack of diversity status if one is being truthful), and now his big vision (for now) at Sunday River is a reality. For him to do the equivalent for K's snowmaking MASSIVE system proportionality wise what he did at Mount Snow, Wildcat and now Sunday River, may literally be an investment nearing 50 million over 2-5yrs.... time and $$ will tell

So sick of this K-Zone chatter crap. If you can’t climb up, you can’t handle North Ridge. It’s not even Thanksgiving. Please ski elsewhere with your passes. Killington has been outstanding. Kudos to Mike and his OUTSTANDING team. They are awesome!DrJeff wrote:As a Mount Snow regular, I saw and have experienced 1st hand now 4 or 5 seasons ago what a MEGA upgrade in pumping capacity combined with an annual serious investment in new snowguns annually means when they brought their West Lake Project on line.

Let the crowd go elsewhere and I will be happy. Haven't stood in a lift line for more than a minute or two for decades. Ikon is making sure that our lifts are now running fully loaded. You people want to make our home too popular to the tourist crowd.

Re: Expansion
as the guns continue to roar on skye lark, in addition to the WC we all know about the race camp thing that's to go on after the event. it will run through dec 3 and apparently there's a GS on dec 4. so we'll see when it opens for the public. here's some details about this race camp thing:

Re: Expansion
maybe Skyelark will be the late season offering LOL... seems like a lot of hours on that slope
So if SS is shut down until the 4th for race camp, does that mean they'll need time after that to tear up the rock hard world cup surface? or will they do that before the race folks start using it?

Re: Expansion
I would imagine with the caliber of athlete that camp and race after is targeting, that the world cup surface on Superstar won't be brought back to "mere mortal surface" until after the 4th. Hopefully though by the 4th, they'll have all of the other items (grandstands/TV production apparatus/etc) out of there, which also does play a role in when they can get SS open to the public.jimmywilson69 wrote: ↑Nov 21st, '23, 07:35 maybe Skyelark will be the late season offering LOL... seems like a lot of hours on that slope

Re: Expansion
It seems like a lot of hours in a lot of places that shouldn't take that long in these temps. Based on what I see, it appears they are running equipment lean in some areas and not using all of the hydrants in others. Both of these are indicative of water rationing. That is, the choice to make less snow in more areas over more in less.jimmywilson69 wrote: ↑Nov 21st, '23, 07:35 maybe Skyelark will be the late season offering LOL... seems like a lot of hours on that slope

They probably need the water the ruin the snow on SS and SL for the racers.newpylong1 wrote: ↑Nov 21st, '23, 08:14It seems like a lot of hours in a lot of places that shouldn't take that long in these temps.
