Re: Mikaela Shiffrin Fan Thread
hopefully not as bad as feared or looked ...
@mikaelashiffrin was taken by ambulance to the clinic in Cortina and is being evaluated for a left leg injury. Initial analysis shows the ACL and PCL seem intact.

Re: Mikaela Shiffrin Fan Thread
Reports now coming in that she didn't sustain any fractures or ligament tears. Maybe a ligament strain and likely some decent bruising and soreness. The impression given is that she may be out for a week or 2 to recover, but not a season ending injury.
Not nearly as bad as the into the net her boyfriend did in Wengen about 2 weeks ago. But regardless, if one has never gone into netting (either A or B net) while not as dramatic a stop as hitting say a tree, it slows you down REALLY quick, and then often your ski(s) or poles or body limbs get caught in it and it can abruptly twist you around. I still have vivid memories of my only big time into the net fall I took during my youth racing career in a DH at Gore about 35 years ago. Wasn't a fun experience, but it was much better than the likely trees I would of hit at a decent clip maybe 30 feet past the net. It's part of ski racing though for most every competitor that has pushed out of the starting gate enough times

Best wishes for Mikaela's recovery. At least she "walked" away.
Several other crashes / injuries in the first Cortina Downhill. Surprising to me as they race that course every year and I've never seen so much carnage.
Still wondering what happened to Corinne Suter - She broke/twisted something landing off a small jump and started screaming in pain. Not sure how it happened.

oops she did it again ... trailing anna swenn larsson by .11 sec after the 1st run, came back strong in the 2nd run to win by .54 sec w swenn larsson dropping to 3rd.
despite missing 6 weeks, won the slalom globe for a record tying 8th time. her season is done as she won't race in the speed events next weekend. continues to amaze.
