skibum thursday at pico. after reading a report from yesterday, wasn't expecting much but actually pretty good. hazy sun w clouds moving in and warming temps. a bit of "something" on the goggles towards the end of the session. a pretty good crowd for pico bu the trails mostly empty. nursing an injury so short session. 10:45-2:30.
everything on the lower mtn skied very well. running the outpost so did a couple laps there. bronco & wrangler surprisingly good. slick in spots but mixed with enough packed & loose pow.
up high upper 49'er & KA were a groomed mixed bag as expected. surprised at how good upper pike was. softish bumps on skier's right. both birch glades & lower giant killer, mostly packed pow with some loose. overall thought the nats & ungroomed skied better than at killington.

Re: thursday 2/22 report
I wonder if with more pumping capacity they bring Giant Killer back to the menu.
Re: thursday 2/22 report
They almost skipped Upper Pike. Zero chance. After the budget cuts, they were back to making snow on one trail at a time like they did before.

Re: thursday 2/22 report
Didn't mean to imply this year by any means, sorry about that. The Snowmaking was no different this year despite double the water that's for sure.

Re: thursday 2/22 report
Went to Cannon to mix it up a bit. most of the mountain is now open. It looks like all the snowmaking hose has been put away for the season. Base was firm and fast, tram was running for vacation week. Little if any lift lines and all the lifts where running without any issues. Still no trays in the cafateria. Went over to the Mittersill side for a half dozen runs, lifty was doing double duty with scanning for apass and loading the chair. Must be a budget cutback...And both doors on the tram worked!
