While we are fixing everything can we move the bottom of the lift more towards K1.

Or is that in the plan?

KMS was using the bag jump last week when I was there.
Okemo used to do in house installs but not anymore with vail as daddy.
D line technology cost more and direct drive even more. A lot of the cost will also depend on how much rock removal they do.

Is the direct drive more efficient and will use less electricity over its life span? May be worth the extra investment if it is.

That would include labor. No ski area has the in house expertise to install their own detach.
yes they do, they have the expertise but those workers are busy keeping existing lifts running and working on other projects. they dont have the labor required to do a lift install in the span of a couple months while avoiding elevation restrictions for the hermit thrush and keeping everything else running at the same time.

Direct drive is more efficient and you eliminate the expense of the gear box and its associated maintenance.

It will need a barn if the chairs have bubbles.
Not necessarily. Dopp D line terminals double as rack barns and that racking system is an automated 1 button push. I have seen some be open air terminals with the chairs racked (Boyne Mountain with their new Disciples 8) or fully enclosed terminals like SR has on the Jordan 8 and Barker 6. I am not certain if L-P has the terminal racking tech yet or not, but they might.
Loon's base building for the lift and chair storage is larger than the Governors lodge next to it. L-P may not be the manufacture of the new lift as Dopp representatives have been seen in the Killington area. Let's hope so!
Yup, and that was because Loon wanted an open air top terminal for the bike park and also the smallest footprint available since that is forest lands and not private like the base of K8.
