Then don't look at the WebCams today. Broken across the trail at tower 3, between towers 6/7 and the HW now.skiadikt wrote: ↑May 21st, '24, 21:38 amazed by the break on the HW. that break on the lower left bumpline was just dirt in one trough this weekend. it'll be all the way across by friday and require some fixing. see 2 other breakpoints in upper middle.
with this weather shouldn't be surprised but nonetheless i am.

at this point i'm remembering how well the groomers have been able to restore a good t2b run from large patches in the past. there IS still a lot of snow on the hill.
i'm keeping the faith, and preparing for the worst.
the weather will be beautiful.
bring the bug spray. the blackflies are getting hungreh with no skiers on the hill this hot week!

You are right. Breaks are not the issue. Having enough to farm is.buckethead wrote: ↑May 22nd, '24, 11:10 at this point i'm remembering how well the groomers have been able to restore a good t2b run from large patches in the past. there IS still a lot of snow on the hill.

Don't look at the web cam. They might be able to farm a day or so out of it. Just not a great season. Good thoughts for Saturday.

^^ correct. it's like watching paint...melt.
eta: that said, the view from the mountain view cam is not so bad right now. tomorrow we'll likely get to watch the first passes later in the day...
we are lucky to have gotten this far. we can thank those three big storms that came after the start of mud season.
finger's crossed for a friday-saturday sendoff.
anything after that would be a (downhike-intensive) bonus.

Re: State of Superstar May 11, 2024
obviously necessary but now that they've begun the comb over process, this speeds up the end. the HW and other patched areas will break within a couple hrs. that's not to say there won't be some good bump skiing in between but they'll be more work involved and edges to be ruined.
will be interesting to see what they announce in tonight's report. so far they've been saying fri-mon but given the continued warm & sunny weather through sunday, monday seems a long way off. showers are forecast for monday. wondering if they pull back a bit from their original optimism and announce perhaps a sunday or even saturday close. we'll see ...

I'll get the fireworks and champagne ready if the announce the closing this weekend.
It would be nice if there was a "normal" end of the year closing with a celebration at the top and bottom at 5:00.

Where is Happy Hour ?
Re: State of Superstar May 11, 2024
Looking at the webcam - i'm guessing Saturday will be the last day, but anyone's guess is as good as mine.
Not sure what we will do - we had this weekend targeted to head up, ski a bit, clean out the place (i'm sure there is still milk and yogurt etc in the fridge since our last visit in April), maybe do a hike or bike etc... but its looking like a lot less coverage than i remember last mem day weekend so really not as motivating. People will probably tell me i'm not "hard core" enough if i don't want to walk across grass three times to get from the top of the lift to the bottom but whatever

^^ safe bet to bring those rusty. if not sat, sunday?
things not looking terrible after first pass. the entrance looks to be for the early crowd only but no surprise there.
be late: belay!
maybe they can beef it up tonite, it's supposed to be a little cooler...but still.

Re: State of Superstar May 11, 2024
Did they make a path of snow to the lift? Can't see that lasting long if they did.
Re: State of Superstar May 11, 2024
Saw moose hiking up. I'm sure he'll report.
Far distance from the snow back to lift. There's a hay throwing machine at the base.
I know last yr when they opened Jun 1 a payloader built a runout mostly back to the lift from that point. It melted out in a cple hrs. We'll see what thus weekend brings

Re: State of Superstar May 11, 2024
thanks for the pics and bata ozzy.
can only read so much from the cams.
i'm ok with walking to the lift.
i hope we wind up with a little more width in the chokes.
a few less people on the snow (esp sat.)
