Same uphill capacity. Does this mean the ride will take more time?

No, it will just have less chairs.

The current lift has 95 chairs. The new one should have about 66 for the same capacity.

Yeah, because you know anything about lifts…

What do you need to know about lifts? It's simple math.

"While the new lift will feature roomier seating, it will maintain the same uphill capacity normally, with the option to increase speed if needed"

I guess it will be high speed, and if needed, really high speed?

It's weird verbiage that I haven't seen with other lift projects, likely to quell any fears of adding too much trail crowding. You can't know exactly how fast the new lift will run until it is built. The top speed for most detachables is 1000 fpm, but they don't necessarily always run that fast. The top speed of the old lift was 800 fpm and it usually only ran at 700. So I would expect the new lift to be faster than the old one.

Killington says same uphill capacity. Regardless of how they accomplish it (lower speed/fewer chairs), they have also said they can run the lift faster when its crowded to decrease the wait, effectively undermining their point. Me thinks Killington is playing a game of 3 card Monte with the statistics, relying on the fact that Kzone sucks at math, and isn't too bright to begin with. I'm okay with that.

From the Killington web site:
While the new lift will feature roomier seating, it will maintain the same uphill capacity normally, with the option to increase speed if needed.
To me that means it will have the same capacity as the previous lift when running "normally" but they can increase the speed which of course increases the uphill capacity. When would they do that? When it's busy, right? Which is exactly when crowded trails are a problem.

I don't know how big of an issue this will be on Superstar because the lift provides access to three different trail pods and thus arguably services a huge amount of terrain. The Snowden six definitely increased capacity over there but it hasn't rendered the area unskiable or even much more crowded than it used to be, and that was a much bigger delta in lift capacity.

And of course, the only day crowding will likely be an issue is Saturday.

Don’t forget though that the Snowden 6 also happened when they did a bunch of reconfiguring of the trails plus tunnels which very helped the crowding there.

I could certainly imagine the Skylark / Bittersweet sections or even Superstar itself getting pretty interesting if there are 50% more people continually being dumped out at the top of Supe.

Curious . . . . Thoughts on how the loading area will look? Same counterclockwise spin? Or? Will they straighten out the load-in or keep the same hard right turn in the lift line before getting on . . So many empty seats going up due to this and its effect on the noobs and the unaware . . We can only hope they think this part out . .

I thought they said the lift would spin clockwise like S6. Presumably this will allow for better loading?

Yes, new superstar lift will spin the opposite way and have a straight-in loading like the Snowden 6

Mike Solimano said running the Superstar lift for higher capacity would be for when the K1 has problems, for example
