Snowmaking and Terrain Expansion Thread (2024-2025)

Post by snoloco »

To avoid tangents to snowmaking in other threads, I'm creating this one here for all things snowmaking and terrain expansion related for the upcoming season.

The snow report claims there will be snowmaking on Rime, Reason, UEF, UGN, and Superstar, for a total of 250 guns. Hopefully those numbers are true. If so, it would be a major improvement on their performance from the last 3 years.

Yeah, their performance has sucked the last three years. How many days open vs next highest in the East each of those years?

Yeah they have a super long season but usually day one is just rime, then reason, and uef, then GE. Usually by the time GE is open to the bottom of the north ridge, Okemo or mt snow have 2 full ttb trails open. They don’t get beat by number of days open, they get beat by acreage early season. k is usually able to catch up eventually though.

Based on the webcams, they have Rime, Reason, UGN, and all of Superstar lit up. Nothing on UEF yet.

On that note, okemo fired the guns up on the summit also. Nothing at the base tho and nothing at mt snow according to the webcam.

They should have skipped North Ridge and went for ttb on Snowdon.

Frosted glass on the North ridge cam lense. Maybe no stairs for the walk down the season.

Not enough air likely to run UEF because they swapped out the Vipers for Rats on Upper GN account wind. Good to see a possibility of no walking down.

Yep ..... You would figure they would have figured that out by now but no ..... Went through this area early last season as well ..... was wet for about 5-10 yards until it froze on my jacket and pants and looked like the Abominable Snowman ..... SSDD with this particular setup ..... Looks like we are in for another season of wet guns. Nothing worse than that.
I never met a bottle of Patron I did not like except for an empty one with no backup.

Cuervo sorta beat me to it.

I remain skeptical about the ability [and product] to get things covered early season with the new Low E guns.

The air hogs have been around for a long time for a reason !

Sunday River just beat K to the punch all on Low E. Last year K opened 11/3 on 100% Low-E save a few hogs near the bottom of the NR Quad because they ran out of Phazers. Then they got Upper Great Nothern open soon thereafter, again all on Low E.

Per gun they will convert less water to snow in marginal but with reduced air you can run 4 of them per hog. In the end you convert more water overall. This technology is not magic, it is proven. Killington is last to the table.

It's hilarious how people are still skeptical of low E when its been used everywhere else for a decade now. That being said, I wonder which guns they have on SS right now.

Phazers down the headwall, then the hodge podge mix of SR7 and Snow Logic towers, K guns down the pitch, one fan on a carriage, the 4 new Halos and the old TF10 fan.
