This Thursday

Post by Crippity »

was up yesterday but got up way too late on hill. Those monster bumps were a bit much for my old snowboarding ass. Will get up Thursday for opening bell hoping for a least one smooth path. What is still open food wise? Jax/Lookout? Will combine with MTB in town trails now open minus sherburner. Kent pond safe for a quick dip right now? i think frowned upon? where else for quick dip super close? can be a brook that you can consider clean :), not looking for secret swim holes, literally could be parking spot on 100 near river to jump in. wont be going down towards echo lake or chittenden etc. super local. TKS. also does anyone have outdoor pool besides grand that would be open?]
Cheers

yeah they groom one trail daily. thursday most likely will be dipper. if you want smooth, creamy - get there for the bell. it does get hacked pretty quickly.

theres always something groomed, but you have to be there at open and it only lasts and hour or two. as for swimming, i just got back from chittenden res which warms the fastest, and its in the mid 40s right now. i made it to my waist and then my feet got super cold and i got out. wanted to dunk but couldnt gain the courage. and i love cold water... but its really really cold. the water temps right now are dangerous, dont jump into anything as it will take your breath away and potentially shock you. id stay out of the rivers for now, too cold and too early the water is likely still high everywhere. kent pond sucks for swimming at any point in the season, but do it if youre desperate. go on the thundering falls side, not the boat launch. theres no good secret spots high up in killington anyways, all the good swim spots are in the valleys where the rivers are actually deep enough to swim in rather than wade. i vote for chittenden but be aware the lefferts pond side still has the gate up till mid may so youve got a 15 minute walk to the first beach by the lot. i guess you could go to the dam side but swimming near boat launches (and dams) is frowned upon.

mountain biking would be better in rutland... id imagine the higher elevation trails are still damp. but if theyre open...

Woodward works for a dip just not at the boat launch.
