It's interesting to see just how many policies from the previous administration Trump is coming to accept as good policies (e.g. Ukraine, taxes, etc).
This executive order seems like good policy even though it is basically a continuation of what Biden started. Maybe this is an indication that we should turn down the caustic rhetoric and seek places both parties can agree to make change. We are not as far apart as the media tries to make us believe.

Allowing white people from South Africa to emigrate here as "refugees" based on alleged reverse discrimination that isn't true is a shameful moment for this White House, especially while at the same time rejecting Afghan refugees. This is what modern racism looks like.

I can't imagine any reason why the White House would set things up this way.easyrider16 wrote: ↑May 13th, '25, 05:35 Allowing white people from South Africa to emigrate here as "refugees" based on alleged reverse discrimination that isn't true is a shameful moment for this White House, especially while at the same time rejecting Afghan refugees. Re: Trump Presidency
i dont doubt that some white south africans are threatened. but people of all races and from all places who are threatened and can prove it should be offered refugee status, not just whites. this admin is blatantly racist.easyrider16 wrote: ↑May 13th, '25, 05:35 Allowing white people from South Africa to emigrate here as "refugees" based on alleged reverse discrimination that isn't true is a shameful moment for this White House, especially while at the same time rejecting Afghan refugees. More info on the situation with some emphasis on what right-wing media is saying (which further illustrates my point in the other thread, that there is plenty of right-wing media bias out there):

Some salient points:

Some salient points:
In a letter to church members, the Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church said that about two weeks ago, the government contacted the church and said it expected the ministry to resettle some of the South Africans under terms of its grant.
But Rowe said this request posed a moral dilemma for the Episcopal Church, which has deep ties to the Anglican Church of Southern Africa and counts the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu—an outspoken opponent of apartheid—among its spiritual forebears. "In light of our church's steadfast commitment to racial justice and reconciliation and our historic ties with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, we are not able to take this step," he wrote.
Seems to me like a BS claim that these folks are refugees at all. And BTW, these folks didn't have to prove anything - Trump circumvented the normal asylum process to admit these folks. This is basically just Trump trolling the opposition, something he's really good at and the other side seems to fall for constantly. Pretty gross to be playing politics with people's lives, though. In February, a South African court ruled that claims of a white genocide were "clearly imagined" and "not real." Police figures showed around 44 murders on farms and agricultural land in 2024, with eight farmers among them. The South African government has also stridently denied allegations of systemic racial discrimination.

Almost back to where prices were last year.
