You know, I don't understand why I've suddenly gotten the reputation of some guy who wouldn't ski killington but complains anyway. I think I've made this VERY VERY clear in dozens and dozens of posts, but since you've apparently missed it, I'll once again re-state:
I LOVE Killington and would be thrilled to ski there if the current ownership group wasn't a bunch of miserable douchebags. Unlike most here who will not hesitate to give these assholes their hard-earned money after bitching about them for months, I am one of the few people who'll actually vote with my wallet and not support these people until either they change, or they leave.

Nyberg or not, they just spent $70 mil to buy the place. Now what do you think should happen? Let's say they borrowed just half, $35 mil. AT 6.5% interest, how many $$ is that monthly (just in interest alone)? And, skiing doesn't last much more than four months, if even that. They're not selling $25,000 in lift tickets daily April through November...right?
They've got to find a way to squeeze as much juice from the orange as they can. I just hope they don't whore the place too terribly.
I'm not happy, but consider also the dollar is weakening; diesel fuel for snowmaking's gotta cost more, Vermont P&E is NOT lowering their rates.
I'm not taking sides but there are some economic realities here.
The thought of $4/gal for gas by next year means my weekend trips (17 gals R/T from NYC translates to nearly $70 in gas, and my car gets 34 mpg hwy. What about SUVs that get 18 mpg? It used to cost me $25/weekend in gas not too long ago...now it's like $50-$55!
No, I'm no Nyberg defender, but let's be real. Again, I'm not happy about hearing that lifts will close midweek. If midweek business slacks off, imagine how Access Road businesses feel? They're really gonna get screwed! I feel really bad for families with kids. I don't want to think that a 2-night 2-day weekend ski trip could cost $2,000 for a family of four.
Last year, Sugarbush season passes were $1050 while K's gold pass was $599? And, the Bush is another hour north, or two hours MORE for New Yorkers.
We're all going to get a little screwed. I don't know what to do. But I don't think that Nyberg will get anywhere by SERIOUSLY F'ing the usual K crowd. He probably thinks that if we get F'd just a little, we'll still stand around and take it.
Remember, this nation voted for Bush. Nyberg pales by comparison.
you don't know how much debt they needed to take on to buy killington. we do know that they could probably have paid cash for the thing, so if they did incur debt, it was to advantage themselves, with whatever accounting trickery they can come up with.
that said, your stated figure of $35 million in debt doesn't come close to the half-a-billion dollars in debt that ASC was maintaining. Even with the crummy business model that ASC had, Killington apparently was by itself profitable but committing every nickel it made to interest. Now, without a significant burden of debt they can actually make some with at least the operations that they had last year - which is why I freaking hate it when Nyberg cites killington's failed business model as a reason for cutting costs. The failed business model was due to overwhelming debt, not mountain operations!
They're lying through their teeth and you know it, yet you're buying into it. Congratulations.
Don't give a rats arse what they paid for it or how much they dump into it. It is a ski area and had a reputation which attracted skiers. That has been totally destroyed by POWDR and Nyberg. His name is on the papers in VT.
As for the stickers and such, YES, Front side Nyberg says "WE EAT WHAT WE KILL"

On the back, NYBERG KILLED KILLINGTON
Um, I don't really think double sided stickers are going to work.

so why complain? like you said, you've voted with your wallet. How would you like it if management came on and stated you were an asshole and a douchebag for giving your hard earned money to a company run by German Billionares...or for buying a Honda....or for the way you choose to handle your professional or personal affairs....to each his own man, get over it and move on. plenty of other mountains who will take your money...if others choose killington, why does it bother you so?? What business is it of yours? You have no vested interest? Just because YOU don't like management, everyone else should also? Maybe all some people care about is skiing and riding, and having a place and people to hang with after--I don't think that's going away.

I don't understand anyone who *wouldn't* stand up for something they believed in and loved.
It's a f*cking ski resort...believed in and loved? He doesn't like the current management or the new mission--so he chose to move on. HE VOTED WITH HIS WALLET--and called magamement douchbags and assholes...he stood up, said his piece, now it's time to move on....this isn't world peace and he isn't a freakin miss america contestant.
