it doesnt make sense to give out free wings when your customers are drinking water and eating 5 baskets of wings....

I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that. I hope they're at least tipping a dollar per water/bowl of wings.

A good compromise would be 20-25 cent wings or maybe dollar per bowl wings. Not sure how vermont liquor laws work, but 2 drink minimum for free wings would also be a nice compromise.

what if they instituted a policy where one drink = one free plate of wings? i have never seen this either or if people are trying to do that, why doesn't the place just refuse?

Clutch wrote:I don't get why they would stop this. I always thought the free wings were to draw people away from the bars on the mountain. If beer is just as expensive and there aren't any free wings at the bars on the access road there is no reason not to hang out at the KBL bar. Frankly at 69 cents a pound for chicken wings and a 4 dollar markup per beer for the 3 beers you drink with the wings, they weren't losing any money on the free wings.
Regardless of where you go to drink, the markup on beers ANYWHERE on the mountain is very high. What is the cheapest beer that you can buy? I don't think you can usually find anything under $4 per pint for Bud or something similar, where in Rutland they charge $2 - $2.50 for the same pint and still make money. With that said, the bars are making money hand over foot on just beers, not counting all the mixed drinks that they serve at $7 a piece, or the fairly expensive food options. To serve up $100 per day of free wings really isn't going to hurt their bottom line all that much, and they probably lose more than that in customers that don't go to that establishment now that they don't get anything for free.

BTW -- the best deal there ever was was when Ppeppers did the mug club. You could get drunk for $12, and that was with a $6 tip!!

It's been going on forever at every ski area in the world. If it's free, you're going to get some people taking advantage of it.

But really even if there are a "few" of these type offenders, there are more than enough people buying drinks at the bar to cover the costs of the wings.

how much do wings cost?
Well...i dont buy wings in bulk, but I know I can go to my local grocery and get wings, probably about 20 of them for under $10...now id have to say if I were buying say....10000's of them the discount would be much cheaper.

If you REALLY like me to look into it I can find out how much if would roughly cost for bulk purchase.

Now I can tell you that they probably pay about $.50 a bottle of beer and charge upwards of $4...again it should EASILY cover the costs of providing free wings for like 2 hours. Im not even going to get into how much markup there is on the booze itself...wow mixed drinks are a goldmine.!!!!

This is interesting, if true. Business can not be good on the Access Road. Not that it should be any surprise. The 1% Option Tax must be looking really appealing now.

This will be an interesting winter. Detox in full swing.

Who will be the first to fail on the Access Road this season? Perhaps a Death Pool, or is that too morbid?
