very sad. condolences to his family. but wow 85 and skiing skye lark. definitely lived a full life.
speaking of old people skiing, back in the 80's my hero was film critic, archer winston. he did a weekly ski column for the ny post. skied into his 80's. used to see him at hunter mtn. hoping i'm still skiing in my 80's even if it's the magic carpet at ramshead.

Re: Accident on Skylark?
A little reflection. When we are in the 30s, 40,s, 50s etc many of us think where do all these years go, how did it happen. From my experience talking to seniors in their 80s and 90s they feel exactly the same as younger people, how did it happen so fast. This person was looking forward to life not to an end to his life or quick way to go doing something he likes, but it is comforting for us that stay behind to think that way.
My sympathy and condolences to the family members.

Definitely a big deal around the resort yesterday.
Condolences to his family.
Still, not a bad way to go considering we're all heading for that same last chair someday.
I'd prefer to drop on the hill than in some nursing home with tubes up my nose.

My point exactly, if he was skiing at 85, makes me think he led a good life that I wish I could have.Legion wrote:Definitely a big deal around the resort yesterday.

The guy who owned the condo above ours celebrated his 90th birthday by going skiing at K a few years ago! He passed away not long after that...tt431 wrote:I'm amazed about how people in their 80's still are able to ski. (Or ride?) I did a couple of runs with a guy in his 80's 3 years ago on rams head. I went out of my way to go up on the lift with him to hear some of his stories about the good old days 60+ years ago. One of the nicer lift rides.tt431 wrote:I'm amazed about how people in their 80's still are able to ski. (Or ride?) How old is the oldest known active skier and or rider pass holder in Killington? Condolences to his family & all those present.
When my time comes I want my kids to scatter my ashes off the lift on a sunny blue sky morning.

I just hope I'm not skiing below the lift when that happens.AtomicWoody wrote:Condolences to his family & all those present.

Sad news. But at 85, is there a better way to go?
I was at snowbird a few years ago when a Japanese guy skied with his family and friends for his 100th birthday. It was quite a sight to see the mass of people skiing down the hill.

I've always said I want to ski on my 100th, but I have the extra challenge of having to do it in the summer.
Edit: He has some pretty amazing accomplishments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keizo_Miura). Everest at 70.

Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.

Not a problem, go south to Chile or Argentina or by the time you are 100 they should be a summer indoor ski resort opened in the US.spanky wrote:Sad news. But at 85, is there a better way to go?
