What? You have a Cool Aid for SR AND K?
Sunday River is an awesome ski area. Great terrain, incredible natural snowfall, wonderful tree skiing, superb vertical drop, and best of all, the people that ski and work there are the nicest in the world. I really wish folks over here on KZone would stop all the hating on Sunday River. It disturbs me. Sunday River is the king. Long live the king!!

I agree there catching up to Big K

My opinion , They are the next Killington. SR is always upgrading every year, better and better adding things, and K is always down grading, tearing Lodges down , putting up umbrella bar that belongs on the beach, re- routing classic trails, taking down removing lifts and closing off crossovers giving Big K an unnecessary butchering mountain surgery, as I stated in another post a lot of mess to clean up, I think there overdoing it. If people like my self didn't care about Big K people wouldn't posting negative or positive comments wondering or talking about whats going on. Any Killington and Sunday River still both rule.

Snow measured in acre feet would be a more accurate metric for comparison. SR: 8200 GPM is there source capacity, 9000 GPM pumping capacity, permitted for 50,000 GPM

Sunday River is light years away. You might as well point out the trail count of Alta.

Depends on where you live, SR is 3 miles closer to my house, but takes 10 minutes longer to get to. Sugarloaf is only 3 hrs from me.
Negative. Water content of an acre foot highly variable. Light powder has a lot less water content than heavy base building snow and won't last through a warm up. Water up the hill is easy to measure and a lot harder to fudge.

Agree, SR is a great mountain, but not particularly challenging.

First, Junior was joking. Second, I am by no means some K homer. Third what lodges have they been tearing down? One lodge has been torn down and is being replaced by a thing of beauty, the other lodge wasn't torn down, and technically it was just part of the lodge, it was wiped out by a massive flash flood. Also that part of the lodge, which was just the bar area was underutilized. More often then not it wasn't open or had minimal people in it. I think the Umbrella Bar is really neat and will be greatly more used then the previous bar. Hmmmm what would i rather have, an outdoor bar where you can enjoy the sun of March, April and parts of May, or a indoor bar? I will get back to yo on your last couple sentences, still trying to figure out what you were saying.

They are not the next Killington. I have no biases either way but SR is further distance from the masses (Tri State area) and lower elevation. Plus there are less trails / overall terrain. These facts alone keep that from ever happening - they will always have to charge less than K to compensate and that is how they compete.

Okemo on the other hand, competes in a different way. They are slightly closer driving distance for most non-season holders, with overall more easy ski in / ski out access for those who don't own a condo. That feature is appealing to many, so they compete for day tickets during peak season. K may address this when they open the village but right now Okemo is probably the better option for comfortable, but affordable accomodations on the mountain. The Grand costs a fortune during peak because it is the only ski in /out hotel.

Mount Snow competes in that they are the closest mountain to the masses. That factor alone is a selling point for a lot of people. Overall, I just don't think SR has that one selling point to differentiate itself which is probably why it's cheaper...

just forget his daily kool-aid dose. after a while, you build up a tolerance and need to increase the dosage. he's fine now.

ummmmm if even if he's joking I still have my opinion. and yes they tore down the damaged part K1 base lodge and the rest is still standing, so I shouldn't have said lodges. But I'm curious to see the new peak lodge if it was really worth building a a high end new one. Then again I'm not a pro at anything , and sorry if anything I'm saying doesn't make sense but I just hope all the changes turn out good in the end.

The Boyne fan guns use a little air from the snowmaking system. they do not have an onboard compressor.

A while back someone asked about the Catskill ski areas and the comparison was made that if Hunter is like Killington then Windham is like Okemo. When talking about Maine, I would say that Sunday River is their Okemo, while Sugarloaf is their Killington. SR can never catch up to Killington because of their elevation disadvantage. Sugarloaf is a great mountain, but their lifts are so old, they make Killington's seem futuristic. The one thing both those Maine mountains have in abundance is ski in / ski out lodging. I do wish K had more of that.
