understand about the warmup but my point was i'd like to see them blow snow on upper dreammaker, fiddle & downdraft before building another park on dreammaker. and yeah looks like we get yet another round of weekly resurfacing. i'm guessing nat snow may be the only hope for those runs.skiingsnow wrote:What is left for snowmaking?

None of which would it make an ounce of sense to blow one or two days before todays warm up and r*in/ice event.
Why weren't they blowing snow?

In addition, Pipe Dream Lower has the ability to make snow on it. I believe it is no longer listed as a snow making trail, not sure why. It's a fun trail, even better before the poor decision was made to remove the lift.

Re: Why weren't they blowing snow?
They have already blown snow for many days on Lower Dreammaker, most of the work left should be with the groomers, not the snowmakers, and should not impede snowmaking expansion onto the few remaining trails they normally make snow on.skiadikt wrote:understand about the warmup but my point was i'd like to see them blow snow on upper dreammaker, fiddle & downdraft before building another park on dreammaker. and yeah looks like we get yet another round of weekly resurfacing. i'm guessing nat snow may be the only hope for those runs.skiingsnow wrote:What is left for snowmaking?

The pipes are not operable on Lower Pipe Dream, which is the reason it is labled a non-snowmaking trail. They do not make snow on Home Stretch, they stopped doing that several years ago. And I believe you could find many posts here from old timers that noone has seen a gun run on Valley Plunge in decades and the pipes are believed to be inoperable.

Re: Why weren't they blowing snow?
I don't know about last season, but they did make snow on Home Stretch two seasons ago and each season before that. Wasn't much, usually just enough to barely get it open.skiingsnow wrote: The pipes are not operable on Lower Pipe Dream, which is the reason it is labled a non-snowmaking trail. Pipes have been decommissioned on L. Pipe Dream and Valley Plunge for a long time, unfortunately.biged wrote:In addition, Pipe Dream Lower has the ability to make snow on it. Re: Why weren't they blowing snow?
Anyone know anything about the pipe on Pike? They set up guns on New years day all the way up and down upper pike. It took all day with a couple of guys dragging hoses and setting guns with snowmobiles. They had hoses on every faucet. Two days later they tore it all down and never made any snow. I thought they replaced that pipe a couple years ago. It's looking like Pike won't open this year without a big storm.SKIQUATTRO wrote:no guns going at Pico either
Meanwhile ski patrol at Pico is doing things that make no sense compared to past years. Summit glade is skiing very well but is never open. The one time they opened it they only opened the top entrance. The top entrance is never the first part to open because of all the baby trees and rocks. The middle entrances were roped all day even though those were far safer ways to get to the trail. This weekend they never opened it even though it was in better shape than it is 50% of the time it's been open in the past. They opened sunset schuss even though it was in worse condition. Worse yet they put up a rope across the uphill climb to outpost. I mean it's up hill!! They also failed to open the extra chute off 49r at the top when the main chute was an ice skating rink and the extra chutes were beautifully covered. I don't get it. It seems like lazyness or some misguided idea that only beginner families ski Pico. How about a thin cover experts only sign or two?? I thought they were short staffed until I saw an unfortunate accident on Saturday where there must have been 5 partollers working on the victim. Oddly they brought the guy down with a sled behind a snowmobile instead of on skis. Then they spent the afternoon drilling sled rescues. Is this like some novice patrol that has no clue or what? It's a sad state of affairs at Pico. Youve got to wonder if their heart is really in owning the place.

...so sad...won't even inquire about powerline
