Re: Killington Pride weekend
Not trying to stir the pot here too much but as a 22 year old I can't seem to figure why those of you who claim to not care, would even comment on this. If you truly don't care then move on. This is a chance for celebration, fun and light hearted gathering which encompasses a much larger civil rights issue. My family is from Iran, I don't need to hear about how bad gays have it. Even growing up in the 'too PC' generation, I witness gay bashing and all forms of intolerance from people of all ages. I do agree with the idea of "why the fus?" What you don't get is only very recently in our country is this socially acceptable for people to be who they are.. Why not spend a day or a week celebrating, is it really gonna hurt you?
Then again some of you probably don't see anything wrong with Russia's anti propaganda laws and that makes me sick.
Embrace your brothers and sisters, have an open mind and an open heart. We will never unite on a grand human scale with how much intolerance is rampant in our world. Good on you killington, I hope it brings some revenue to the area, better yet I hope it brings people closer together.

Well said Mike

Re: Killington Pride weekend
Such small 'minds", you 'guys' are right. I find people who hate (and thats' how it comes off) are the ones who are most likely to be to have there own skeletons in closet. I have friends who were in Aspen for pride week and said it was the biggest party they were ever at and this was in the '90's. One word diversity.

It's also going to lend new meaning to the Pickle Barrel.freeski wrote:Wham Bam Rainbow Jam: Who makes this stuff up. No matter how you feel about this special day that's just stupid. Killington is a ski resort do they really need to have a gay pride day? What's the goal? Despite my love of gay jokes I have no problem with gays. But, what does being gay have to do with skiing. Is there a tax credit they earn for this?

As for your question, there have also been occasional weeks or weekends for groups such as the National Brotherhood of Skiers (a black skiers organization) and others at many ski resorts around the country. It's all part of being social, mingling with people like yourself, as well as a celebration of who you are and/or your ethnic heritage. When you are a minority, and a discriminated against minority at that, these things matter.

If I decided to host straight pride weekend at killington would you still think it's a great thing?
Sexuality is a private matter. Keep it in private where it belongs not plastered all over the news (or killingtons lifts). If you have an issue with the current politics surrounding gay rights take it to Washington. I go up to Killingon on a weekly basis to get away from the day to day bs of society...not to have it thrown right back in my face when I get up there.

As long as they can ski well, I don't care. Should see a few great costumes one the slopes that weekend. Maybe we'll get to see Frank N Furter hitting OL:

Re: Killington Pride weekend
Welcome to K-Zone Nyknicks4412. I agree why does sexuality have to be used as a marketing tool? There has been a huge push of late to normalize homosexuality. You have all of the attention the media has paid to the NFL prospect coming out and the 10 day contact to the NBA player. ABC news is covering everything the NFL prospect says. He claims he just wants to be known as a football player. Okay, then why didn't you just keep your sexuality to yourself. I think this media push is partially to get all states to accept gay marriage. I think the next suppressed group will be polygamists. Should Killington have a polygamist weekend? Sure they threaten the family structure, but so do gays. I guess it just come down to where you draw your personal line of what you think is acceptable.Nyknicks4412 wrote:The issue with these types of events and the people that preach acceptance is they accept everyone's views...as long as they share them. Killington should be free to have the event and those participanting should be allowed to enjoy and not be harassed.
