Right where a cable was connected to the pole there was some sparking and a tiny bit of flames, not on the pole but the end of the broken cable. Don't think anything else was involved based on what I saw right over my head and what I heard from someone qualified.
It all depends on when the power company can get the right skillset up the poles to restring the cables. In the crappy weather, no less.
I waited a total of 30 minutes from the start of the event, rode back up the triple on diesel power, back down the K1 on normal speed since it runs normal on diesel. Windy on the hill but the K1 and triple were not rocking very much.
On a street - could be fixed easily and quickly. On a mountain in the snow & wind - safety is a huge factor and you can't bring up a cherry picker to access the poles since they are on a hillside and too far from the flats.
The only good news is that there is a fair amount of time to get it done by 8 or 9am. Stay tuned to Killington, if it is possible they will do it.
Meanwhile - they skiing was great, got better by the hour, no crowds, got in 21 runs by 1:15. Nice lines on the side.
thanks for the on the spot update

Probably going to attempt repairs at sunup with less bad weather, cuts the risk for the workers. Which means the 11am target is a conservative one. Fixed and running by 10am? Sure they will upload when able.
Going to be great skiing with great base depths, warmer temps, no crowds. Worth showing up.
Years ago when a Snow making pipe broke at the top of the Bear chair and turned everything into a frozen wonderland, including poles and wires at the top, they dragged 2 line trucks up behind snow cats with buckets and a digger to replace the broken poles.

At this time we believe repairs will take longer than expected and we do not have a time estimate for opening (we previously announced 11:00 a.m.). Further, we are experiencing freezing r*in and mist at the Peak which may affect lift operations once power is restored. Please stay tuned here at the conditions report for updates.

Power to the K-1 Express Gondola and the North Ridge Triple was interrupted yesterday by a downed power line in the North Ridge area. Winds gusting to 50+ mph and freezing precipitation prevented the line crew from restoring power overnight. The crew is attempting a repair now but, we will have a delayed opening today.
At this time we believe repairs being made by Green Mountain Power line crews will take longer than expected and we do not have a time estimate for opening (we previously announced 11:00 a.m.). Beware of fools & trolls here, they lurk everywhere.
It opened . . . conditions were soft snow, but the visibility was challenging - well, for me anyway - in spots, you could not determine terrain. We tried to find the pole that burned, but did not really see anything!!
. . . and, thank you Killington for the soup . . . it was extremely tasty

I was at the peak when the power went out along with Mr. & Mrs.G, Spyderman and Shortski. They ran the gondola on auxiliary power to get us down. Definitely was planning to ski down to the bottom if the gondola was no longer running. However, I probably would have ruined my skis doing that.
that's never stopped you in the past
Went down Cascade 2 years ago. Was like glue.
Then the Halloween parade in Rutvegas. Did anybody go this year?
Was pretty good with Bernie as the Grand Marshall.
