Does Maine have the same travel restrictions that VT has? If not, they will probably do better.

Strange not to see MA on that list. If your planning a ski vacation ME makes a lot more sense at this point.

Mass and RI have been required to quarantine before visiting Maine most of the summer, but you see plenty of their plates on the Maine Turnpike. I live 20 minutes from the Maine border.

Did SR add a couple thousand feet of vertical and a decent road to get there or crickets?

Stop comparing the 2. It's stupid.
The two areas are more similar than different. You get 1,000 to 1,200 feet of sustained vertical in a big sprawl. Killington at least has the advantage of ~2x the average snowfall so it will probably have more acres in an austerity year.
Sometimes more natural can be a disadvantage when you get a thaw. The puffy low water content lake affect snow Killington gets can disappear fast. Machine man made is more durable to thaws. Sunday River probably makes more snow than Killington because of less natural. Pick your poison
What makes you think Sunday River will have a bigger snowmaking budget than Killington? They sold all those $750 blackout passes. They’re going to have to limit capacity just like everyone else. When they can sell day tickets after getting beyond the cheap season pass people, the day ticket price is a lot lower. It’s not like Sunday River pays less for diesel fuel for compressors than anyone else. Their $ per skier visit yield is a lot lower than Killington. Like everyone else, it’s unlikely they will be able to blow 100% of the mountain and resurface frequently. The advantage goes to the resorts that get more natural snow.

If I were operating Killington, I’d blow one trail per lift to get all the lifts open and then see where the business stands. Unless it’s cold in December, I wouldn’t expect many of the double blacks.
Actually, SR uses ZERO diesel fuel for their compressors, it is all electric.

As to their snowmaking budget, I have heard that they have not reduced the budget 1 cent from last year's budget. They have a hillside full of private homes and a lodge of half a million and up condos to sell this season.

Have not seen much for specifics on Merrill. Is the access going to be from the bottom of north peak? Fixed grip quad? What is the drop? Will there be any actual skiing or something similar to sunrise? Is the lift scheduled for 2022? Usually NESH is all over pending expansions but there is nothing.

Mass residents have been granted free rein to enter Maine yesterday. No more quarantining.

I guess you haven't been to Killington after a thaw when shitloads of natural seem to disappear overnight and all the natural trails close. Yet the durability of the man made keeps those trails open. You can't groom rocks and grass, but you can grind frozen made made into a skiable surface. Areas that get less natural tend to make more snow.

More natural is NEVER a disadvantage.

Natural snow is way better while it lasts, for however long. Many seasons natural snow trails ski better, even after a thaw. Only on poor season years do the man made trails ski better throughout the season. Seasons with fewer thaws and good snowfall favor the natural trails. That's why I like the mix of trails at Killington, the variety of man made vs natural allows each to shine when conditions are favorable for each. Seasonal forecasts are never good enough, so the all natural vs all manmade trails cover both bets. It would be a loss to transition to 100% snowmaking.

Yes, and even with that, CMP cannot seem to keep a good electric flow going all year for their second largest customer. Ahh, Maine....
