Whiteface, according to their snow report, is experiencing a delayed opening for...wait for it...lift de-icing.
poor loco can't catch a break  .

great to hear they're making snow on lower bunny.
I didn't go to Whiteface today. I went to Belleayre, which is on the same pass. Of the 3 days, Killington and Whiteface only operated normally on Saturday. On Friday, Whiteface closed early due to wind, and Killington didn't open till around 2 due to ice. On Sunday, Whiteface didn't open till around 1:30 due to ice, and Killington was closed all day due to a transformer failure.

These mishaps all show how important it is to get terrain expanded and get off of downloading. At both resorts, with the current terrain and lifts, there are too many single points of failure that close the whole mountain.
thats because its early season. one of killingtons greatest traits is the lift redundancy although a couple years ago there was a power failure that shut down the entire eastern half of the mountain. any resort can experience that, in K's case its GMP not them. but the main power line to any resort can get knocked out from storm damage or other kind of failure and theres nothing a resort can do except wait it out and provide support to the power company.

the transformer issue was caused by rime ice falling off a tree in a gust of wind and knocking down the lines to it. if it wasnt early season it would of been mostly a non issue, with a couple lifts closed but nothing one couldnt work around. they would of stayed open if this was mid season.

how was belleayre?! 18" sounds lovely.
