Bloomberg has no authority over transit workers. The MTA is a state agency.
Big K did you miss this part, or just worried over missing the bus or train
Nope. Just wanted to make sure that Bloomberg - who imho has been a good mayor - doesn't get blamed for not doing something that he has no authority to do.
I'm off today so it's not a problem. Supposed to go in tomorrow but seeing as how Thursday's my last day at my soon-to-be-former employer, I'll take a sick day (got 100+ saved up). Will give the missus an extra ski day.

I am tempted to leave my house and start driving at 7am if this strike happens... I'm not about to let this thing ruin a ski trip I've been planning since february.
what would you do?
Load up the kid's little red wagon and start walking now! Do not miss that flight whatever you do!!

I left NYC this morning at 8 heading to the office in NJ. Manhattan is completely gridlocked north of 86th Street. The streets and the FDR/HRD combo was at a dead standstill with cop blocks at every exit coming south. The roads going north, including the highways, are completely deserted. I feel like I woke up in bizarro world this morning. All northbound venues are empty. All southbound venues are gridlocked.
A truly strange sight to behold. Hope this ends soon. Glad I'm heading to K this afternoon.

I was reading (for the first time) the issues that they're going on strike over.. and I must say I have no sympathy for these miserable bastards at all. Moving the retirement age from 55 to 62 for employees who haven't even started yet (when the rest of the country retires at 65??!)
Contributing 1-2% of their salary to their heathcare benefit (when the rest of the country's premiums are up at least 10%?!)
This is what these shitfukers are crippling the city over less than a week before christmas?!?
I hope to god that Pataki follows through on his threats to punish these workers individually. I hope their children get nothing for christmas this year because dad can't afford it. I hope to see some homeless bus drivers in February after they can't make rent payments. And to ensure all this happens, I hope the politicians give special compensation to lawyers who sue these cocksuckers individually (lawyers are key - they would extract every penny they could out of them)..
You are a heartless person to wish such bad fortune on people that have no choice to strike because their union leaders decided to do so. I would like to see how you would feel if you were in their position.

What? They authorized their union leaders to call a strike. No choice? Please...

Ty, they have a choice and it is called a vote. They could have voted against the strike.
On another note, hope they get the full bennefit for health care. If the City or State pays 100%, then that bennefit becomes taxable income the stupid bastahds.
