Grim reality that about 1 in 1,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. I still remember when folks said it was no worse than the flu.
I stopped following the numbers long ago when I was told it would miraculously disappear.

Vaccination process seems terribly inefficient. 2 million in arms out of 20 million distributed.
Seems the root cause might be similar to all the other issues observed since the pandemic started:
- Administration not following their own pandemic playbook.
- Administration delegating responsibility to the states without guidance or funding

Going to relay a personal story from a Kzone member Jambear. Friend of mine through the Grateful Dead music scene, not skiing. Hasn't posted in a couple years, but is (was) a long time K skier who always grabbed a room in a Killington house share for many years.
T is not skiing K this year. He's an ICU nurse at one of NHs larger hospitals that has seen one of the highest amounts of Covid patients since this all started. He doesn't feel right coming to VT with their quarantine rules and his occupation putting him at high risk for getting infected. Thankfully he has not gotten sick.
Recently he had a Covid patient on his unit. The story is this gentleman was 60 years old with a great health history. He had been playing everything by the rules to limit exposure. Hadn't seen his son and wife in several months. They are expecting his first grandchild this winter. He begged them to come visit for Thanksgiving. The son and wife got tested four days before the holiday and were negative. They quarantined until arrival. No symptoms, but turned out the son was actually positive. The father got sick five days later, was in the hospital shortly after that, put on a vent the week before Christmas and died on 12/26. He won't get to see his first grandchild and the son has to live with knowing he brought the disease into his father's home.
I bring this up for a couple of reasons.
1. 60 is far from "old" and while rare, Covid can kill perfectly healthy people. There are many Kzone members that fall in this demographic, some of whom I've seen a rather flippant attitude regarding how deadly it can be.
2. This is one of many Covid deaths that T has had to try and prevent. He's had to sacrifice everything in his life almost including skiing Killington to fight the disease professionally and be personally responsible to not contribute to it's spread.
When this pandemic abates and Jambear can return to Killington, please thank him for being the hero he is. And until that time, please know that any lapse in judgement on your part that results in the spread of infection could put another patient in his care and potentially be another death he needlessly has to witness.
Stay safe. None of us are beyond getting killed from this disease.

Power to the Jambear.
Encouraging to hear stories about sensible people.

Baker in remarks today said that the rollout of the vaccine has been bumpy but Massachusetts does expect to receive the 300k doses they were promised by the end of the year. Basically he seems to be saying the administration has done an acceptable job of rolling out the vaccine thus far, especially considering the enormity of the undertaking.

Biden is now responsible for next steps starting today so I won't have much tolerance for Trump's failures as an excuse. However, since it's only day 1 I don't find this surprising at all. I assume Biden's administration came in with a distribution plan and this isn't day 1 of their distribution assessment ...

Newly sworn in President Joe Biden and his advisers are inheriting no coronavirus vaccine distribution plan to speak of from the Trump administration

This is what happens when you put an inept incompetent in charge of something important. The CDC director says she has no idea how much vaccine the US has, and places the blame on the Trump admin's poor planning.

I think this is a bad look for Walensky. I know what she's trying to do, but she shouldn't be making these type of public statements. It's not rocket science to figure out how many vials of vaccine we have.

Got my first Moderna dose of the forced vaccine and microchip this morning. Will be interesting to see how I feel tomorrow.

Awesome you had the opportunity to get it. From people I know after the first shot its been sore arm to nothing... after the second shot is when a somewhat stronger immune response tends to happen to some. Maybe the second shot is when you actually get the government tracking nano-chips.

Yeah, slightly sore arm, but that's about it.
I got pretty lucky. A hospital group I work with provided me with the opportunity. I spend a couple of days a week in their ICU patient rooms and ORs helping their providers evaluate and operate equipment. My exposure risk is pretty high because of it. I'm sure they are also concerned with essential vendors bringing the virus into their facilities as well.

FDA has determined that the criteria under section 564(c) of the Act for issuance of the EUA
referenced above are no longer met. Under section 564(c)(2) of the Act, an EUA may be issued
only if FDA concludes “that, based on the totality of scientific evidence available to the
Secretary, including data from adequate and well-controlled clinical trials, if available, it is
reasonable to believe that: (A) the product may be effective in diagnosing, treating, or
preventing—(i) such disease or condition [….]; and (B) the known and potential benefits of the
product, when used to diagnose, prevent, or treat such disease or condition, outweigh the known
and potential risks of the product […].”
still don't see the reason to revoke the emergency status when none of the criteria used to institute that status have been refuted...
I know yer ecstatic over it but your post doesn't address the failure to include any of the studies using zinc which was touted as key...nor have there been any valid studies showing "more harm than good"...
again I don't see any urgent need to revoke the status while it's still undergoing clinical trials.
why not continue to allow emergency use under a dr's care?
what changed to necessitate the revoking of emergency status?
XtremeJibber2001 wrote:The information is out there. it wasn't cited in the FDA paper for revoking...zinc was never mentioned...it's still undergoing clinical trials It was approved for emergency use, it was observed that hydroxychloroquine doesn't provide an antiviral effect. a reason why the emergency use NEEDS to be revoked...not just an excuse for doing so...while there may not be evidence to move it from emergency to full approval, there also doesn't seem to be any reason to move it from emergency to no longer allowed...

Oklahoma trying to return its $2m stockpile of hydroxychloroquine
The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office has been tasked with attempting to return a $2 million stockpile of a malaria drug once touted by former President Donald Trump as a way to treat the coronavirus.
