It does surprise me a little that Carlson is so successful because those other people are actually intelligent and calculated, whereas Carlson is clearly not. But hey, the flat earth society has a following so clearly there's no shortage of dumb people to sell things to.

Satire - "the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues."easyrider16 wrote: ↑Apr 28th, '21, 08:26 Haha you think Tucker Carlson is smart enough to do satire?
Even the people at Fox don't take him seriously and argued as much in a court case:https://www.npr.org/2020/09/29/91774712 ... ox-s-lawyeShe wrote: "Fox persuasively argues, that given Mr. Carlson's reputation, any reasonable viewer 'arrives with an appropriate amount of skepticism' about the statement he makes."

I don't really get the logic of the anti-mask thing. Are you against seatbelts? Helmets? Seems to me it's the same principle - protective gear that can only help. The only explanation I see for being anti-mask is some kind of emotional response to being told what to do by someone you don't like.

Yes, that is the definition, but in Carlson's case, the only stupidity he seems to be exposing is his own. And I guess that of those who choose to watch his show. I mean, what exactly is stupid about having kids wear a mask during a pandemic?

Here's the thing about the Tucker rant
Republicans tend to fashion themselves to have libertarian leaning beliefs. Keep big government out of my life, let me be free to do what I want, etc etc
So Tucker is telling his supporters to get in the face of mask wearers and call the cops or child protective services on parents who put masks on their kids. That's the antithesis of that core Republican value.
If someone wants their kids in a mask, so be it. Let them be. You know it may not just be to protect against Covid. They could have other health issues as well.
Dude is quickly heading towards a Glen Beck level of insanity

PA Governor is lifting all COVID mitigation steps, effective May 31. Masks will stay until 70% of the states adults are vaccinated. We're at 33% fully vaccinated as now and 50% partially.

Norwegian Cruise Line could pull ships from Florida if rule on vaccine mandates sticks

The world’s third largest cruise company is prepared to pull its ships from Florida in the coming months if it has to comply with the state’s new law against vaccine mandates.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings president and CEO Frank Del Rio on Thursday suggested the company’s three brands — Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises — would move their Florida-based vessels to home ports in other states or even to non-U.S. ports in the Caribbean if they were forced to comply with the new rule.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has announced all its ships would resume operations this year with a requirement that all passengers and crew be vaccinated for COVID-19 — a mandate that is not allowed under the Florida law.

Re: NSR: Corona Virus - You Can Start Panicking Now
Had a discussion tonight with a friend who swore up and down the CDC is reporting 30 people are dying from the vaccine everyday. I knew this friend had to have got this datapoint from somewhere ... low and behold ...
This dude is dangerous. How Fox continues to allow this without reprimand is crazy.“Tucker Carlson” wrote:Between late December of 2020 and last month, a total of 3,362 people apparently died after getting the COVID vaccine in the United States — 3,362. That’s an average of roughly 30 people every day."
Re: NSR: Corona Virus - You Can Start Panicking Now
Context is completely missing in that quote. I would want to know how that is fIgured. Is it people who caught corona? the Flu? Cancer deaths? What is it comprised of? Dying simply because of the vaccine would be MAJOR headlines. Look at the kerfuffle over the J&J vaccine where six, I repeat SIX people out of 6-7 million had an adverse reaction and the press that event (non-event?) generated.XtremeJibber2001 wrote: ↑May 8th, '21, 20:33 Had a discussion tonight with a friend who swore up and down the CDC is reporting 30 people are dying from the vaccine everyday. I think context was withheld intentionally. This is the only video I could find on the segment so ignore the obvious bias from the narrator.Dickc wrote: ↑May 9th, '21, 08:56Context is completely missing in that quote. Re: NSR: Corona Virus - You Can Start Panicking Now
You got my interest with this one, not only is your accusation a little over the top, but I just got the second shot yesterday. So I google "VAERS Covid" and right there is this pageXtremeJibber2001 wrote: ↑May 8th, '21, 20:33 Had a discussion tonight with a friend who swore up and down the CDC is reporting 30 people are dying from the vaccine everyday. https://www.wmal.com/news/vaers-reports ... ccination/
According to The Epoch Times, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) followed vaccinations by Moderna and Pfizer between December 14 2020 and February 19 2021. The system reported 966 deaths of people who received either of these vaccines, the only two available at that time, which represents 5% of the total number of 19,769 adverse events reported. The report noted that 472 people died after receiving the Moderna vaccine, and 489 died after getting the Pfizer vaccine.
Newsweek launched its own investigation of the VAERS data but included all adverse reports of death up to February 26. They counted a total of 970 people who died after getting their shots — remarkably close to the results published in the Times.
So tell me why "this dude is dangerous"? I see a discrepancy between 3,362 "Between late December of 2020 and last month," and 970 "between December 14 2020 and February 19 2021". So without further digging, is it reasonable that in the ramp up of vaccine injections and the delay in gathering data, that between February 19th and "Last month" which would be April 30th another 2,392 adverse deaths occurred?
Putting the data in percent form, the article states:
According to the Times, the death rate of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines is much higher than that of the flu vaccine which was associated with 0.0000265% of deaths in vaccinated people in 2019. The COVID-19 vaccine rate of death as of Feb. 19 was .0023%.
Comparing to the flu vaccine:
According to the Times, the death rate of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines is much higher than that of the flu vaccine which was associated with 0.0000265% of deaths in vaccinated people in 2019. The COVID-19 vaccine rate of death as of Feb. 19 was .0023%.
For some reason, the COVID vaccine is causing fatality reporting in the VAERS system to increase by a factor of 87 times more.
So what is your outburst based on?

He’s dangerous because he didn’t outline how the VAERS system works. I can go in there right now and report my friend died after taking the vaccine. It’s a passive system. Anything from the system should be taken with a grain of salt because it’s all unverified.

So are you proposing a conspiracy theory on the VAERS system for just COVID, and not the flu? Because otherwise the comparative difference has significance, even if not completely documented.XtremeJibber2001 wrote: ↑May 9th, '21, 10:47 He’s dangerous because he didn’t outline how the VAERS system works. I'm not missing that it's sloppy reporting. Gosh, who else does sloppy reporting?

The comparative difference of unverified data is still unverified data.

The quote is open to interpretation. Does it mean people are dying because of getting the vaccine, dying of Covid after getting the vaccine, or a combination of both?XtremeJibber2001 wrote: ↑May 8th, '21, 20:33 Had a discussion tonight with a friend who swore up and down the CDC is reporting 30 people are dying from the vaccine everyday.
