Re: Expansion
Best description when I asked somebody coming down today at 9:45 how it compares to yesterday. “Well there’s a whole different set of challenges”. That is an accurate snow report.
Seeing skylark lit up, I am loosing faith in this place. 1000+ people came to ski today and it’s absolute garbage, except on UEF where they are spraying you with fire hoses so you can’t see the holes in the snow. There’s definitely still a spring running under there.

No real skin the game, though if they were TTB I would consider a visit, but this year just seems poorly done on many levels, and you locals have pointed them all out. To me, the real question - and it’s a questions as I do not know - is why are they still pounding Skye Larke given the sh*t show on the public terrain?
For Killington to still only have 1 1/2 runs off of NR 3 weeks into a reasonably cold November will be reputation impacting.

I think at this point we can safely (and sadly) say it's just as required as Superstar is...rogman wrote: ↑Nov 7th, '23, 18:27I don’t think so. It is used for training but I don’t know what’s required of it to pass snow control, though.daytripper wrote: ↑Nov 7th, '23, 18:12 Has skyelark been touched yet? Don't they need that for WC training?

"Howdy Beast Fans. You seem to be keenly aware that something is going on with our snowmaking rollout this year on public terrain. But you can count on us to remain radio silent about it."
I have one simple question, which I don't really expect to be honestly answered by them: How short-staffed are they?
We are looking at the most labor-intensive snowmaking system, by far, of any large ski resort you can name. We have talked for years about how they get by with brute force. Well, maybe they don't have enough brutes.
If this is the case, all of our discussion about "capacity", without factoring in being understaffed, is meaningless.
I suspect they are often less air-limited or water-limited than they are staff limited.

Re: Expansion
We should be asking that, as well as why no significant progress has been made on making it less labor intensive.

Maybe they should just give up on Snowden and focus on the Fiddle.

So - Now that I am off the mountain and back home, here's what I saw today.Captain Hafski wrote: ↑Nov 19th, '23, 13:40 Well not to give snow Loco a heart attack but looks like there's a pipe blowout on Lower bunny buster
Drove up for a reconaissance lap at 11:00 or so. Looked like they had Great Northern going all the way including guns on Lower Bunny Buster. Driving up later noticed guns not on Lower Bunny though temperature hadn't changed. Heard some "equipment" noises as I was booting up in Bay 1. Then we saw the excavator had opened up Lower Bunny [call it a third of the way down from Mouse Trap] as we looked out from the gondi. As we got up higher, looked like all the "TTB" guns were off; guessing due to the blowout.
Also, unrelated to the blowout, they did not have all the guns on LEF; a bit less than half of them I'd say.
Will talk about the "skiing" in the daily report. I'm sure folks want to know if we found a better run than Rusty's "Peak Bar" one !

Re: Expansion
But that would just be too easy . that's what is lacking here with the early season rollout . . . a little creativity. High Traverse and Low Traverse both are low hanging fruit.. Why not . .180 wrote: ↑Nov 19th, '23, 08:51 Doesn't help with lower Rime, but a simple way to spread the masses is High Traverse back to Cascade. I skied it all last weekend as a distraction on natural snow. Low traverse too. Even Pipeline was covered enough believe it or not. Also, Upper Dipper could be opened with just a few hours of snow making.

I might be a little slow or didn't participate in burger king workers smoking in parking lot after I dropped me kids off in rutland. But not moving hoses or guns to get top to bottom which should of be set up long ago or when temps went up on main routes is staff limited doesn't seem to make sense me.Southside_Bobby wrote: ↑Nov 19th, '23, 12:40 "Howdy Beast Fans.
