looks like I'm gonna be spending a lot more time at Magic
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
Dont forget that POWDR is all about the bottom line financially. If they can get away with 10 patrolers for the day, like they had the other day, for all of k peak, snowdon and part of skye peak, then there's a good chance of you being able to get er dun.
Just use your head and you should be fine.

Why are people making a big deal about them not telling everyone the rules? First off, Spinmaster told Kzone the policy months ago, and second, since when has K ever made a public announcement of a policy against skiing closed trails? They have always done what they do once they catch you, and have never told you what to expect ahead of time... At least not from what ive seen. Apparently when you got caught before you got your pass punched, certain number of punches, certain level of punishement... Now they are doing something else, but either way you only found out when you got caught, K never layed out the exact punishements, you only here from people on the mountain who got caught and telll you about it, or from people here talking about it....
Spin did make a big deal out of this over the summer
Bitching about the punishment for Day ticket vs Pass thing is valid, but its pretty much the same thing at any mountain, they're going to be harder on the passholders, its the nature of the beast.
IMHO they're free to do what they wish, its their world and I'm just living in it for the year
however, as is the case with the hiking policy, I'm now less likely to consider Killington a viable option, especially now that I know Magic will allow me to skin before the lifts start turning.
I'm someone who values powder(not powdr) above all things, and I'm often working at odd hours which means I sometimes can't be bound by operating schedules. On a powder day Magic is closer to my house, I can start skinning before the lifts turn and do a few laps, then ride the lifts for a couple more, and because of these factors I can potentially be on the snow for 2.5 hours longer then I could at K.
thats going to factor in to my decision making as to where I'm winding up next year. I'm sure there are other people who are wondering the same thing with regards to Operating Schedules and Kids programing
I'll be interested to see the retention rate K has for its current season passholders.

Good f-ing riddance. I'm getting really tired of the perpetual bitch-fest. Go whine somewhere else. I'm sure Magic will be thrilled with you.
Every paying season pass holder I"ve talked to is happy as hell with what they've seen so far. They're blowing snow on the good terrain. The mountain isn't crowded. Lots of people with blackout passes are bumming that they didn't get unlimited passes for the extra $400 since Thanksgiving was so good and Christmas looks to be one of the best in memory.

Thats what I did when I was caught up on upper Ovation a few days back... After talking with and argueing I did not have a pass, and I hiked, and the theft of services bs, and going to escort me to my car to get license plate number to check with the seaosn pass office, and non sense for 10 minutes they let me go... but then waited another 5-10 minutes for me at the bottom of Superstar... I waited on Superstar and ignored them until they finally gave up and left...
i have new found respect for you ... but escort you to your car they gotta be kidding?!? yeah mine's the mercedes ...
to be honest with the rollout, poaching hasn't been that big an issue. this weekend virtually any trail i could reach was open though i didn't try skye burst or dreamaker. by sunday afternoon i was surprised certain nat trails like north star were even open so maybe they've lowered their standards in that area.
for me the real test will be late season when we want to hit ol or the canyon trails after those lifts close. nyberg saw some zoners skiing ol last spring and didn't say anything unless he was making mental notes.

I would imagine that these types of policies are born in the legal department in an effort to reduce their liability. I can not imagine any mountain not having some sort of formal policy that is distrubiuted to the ski patrols.

The one missing link that remains TBD in the love fest season passholders are having will be late season, as you've mentioned before. If they decide to go to 5/5 or thereabouts, that would be sweet.

so we can hear your perpetual bitch fest about YOUR condo and whether YOUR getting money out of the investment due to the shorter season when they close April 15th?
Seriously Geoff, you've bitched JUST as much as most, whether its beer prices at MR, or season length, or the fact that someone parked to close to your VW in the paid parking lot.
I didn't say I wouldn't ever buy another season pass at Killington, I too have been impressed with the rollout, and the lack of crowds. I'm disappointed about hostile attitude the mountain is taking towards things that are important to me, obviously the things that are important to me(access to the mountain during non operational hours and a laissez faire attitude with regards to out of bounds and closures) aren't that important to you. That doesn't make either of us bad people, just different skiers thats all.

love fest?? i wouldn't exactly call it a love fest ... they are taking full advantage of some of the best early season weather and yes blowing tons of snow in all the right places but there's still plenty of issues.
just this past saturday, parking was a mess, kbl was painfully overcrowded ... there's still the early announced closing. spoke to a local shop owner and he said that most shop owners (except maybe rick) are pissed as hell. talk to folks who own property at pico or on the lower skye ship. how 'bout the lifetime pass issue, pricing on kid's programs, pass pricing for local school kids, ski councils, lodging not getting discount package lift tickets ... yeah maybe many of the advanced skier passholders are soiling themselves (myself included) with the rollout but none of those other problems have gone away. lovefest ... i don't think so.

Thats what they were threatening to do, to get my license plate number to check with the season pass office if I really had a pass, and because I was stealing services.... I was all like "lets do it" cause I know damn well the season pass office doesn't have my license plate number, and they aren't going to go researching to find it out over this... I was polite the whole time, but very insistent that I had no pass!! As said, Spinmaster said this summer that you would indefinitely lose your pass for skiing closed trails, so I wasn't about to let that happen! I went into this season with the idea I wouldn't ski closed trails, but dozens and dozens of people went down Upper Ovation, and it was so so good... Did it 4 times without getting caught, but then the fifth run they were at the bottom finishing setting up a rope blocking Lower Ovation...
Even last year they stopped people from skiing Bear and Lower Skyeship when they closed with all that snow... I specifically remember people asking Spinmaster if it was ok to ski those or not, and he said NO, and ski patrol may or may not be in those areas ready to catch you... But as we know when they close the ehole mountain they didn't care, and this year will likely be the same. Powdr allowed hiking this year early season, before the real major snowmaking began and they had no problem doing it then, so. . .

Did he really "yell" at them or was it something a little less dramatic?

Me too.
Saw the critiscism some office boy shot Bubba over his survey -- would love to see the results of their official customer research. Last weekend, we were hit up by two ambassadors withinn about 10 minutes of each other to do a little market survey thing they were conducting on their little elctronic gadgets.
From what one of them let slip, I bet the figures on whether the cutomer is receiving "good value" are much lower than you would want them to be for customer retention. (And that "customer is always wrong" attititude can't be helping much.)
Of course, if your plan is to desimate all the local business -- and deflate all the local real estate values -- in order to eventually have a monopoly on all mountain related business -- well, then their strategy makes some sense.
Wanderer, I thought I give up all liabilility claims against the mountain when I buy a ticket.

He yelled at them like Sam Kinison in Back to School...
