Sugarbush claims the King of Spring title.

Please explain. Are you saying that the comments, " Why boast more snow than the Bush if you weren't open ALL this past week?" were someway, somehow directed at K, although it would make no sense, as it has nothing to do with Killington?JerseyGuy wrote:You, sir, are an idiot. I just felt like sharing.
Do you have any friends? In real life, I mean?

No. The Killington upper management is going to toe the company line even though the troops in their employee base are well-aware that they are doing something stupid.madvillain wrote:The message says it all

All is well and we are sticking to our plan. We open mid-November. We close mid-April. That's when $80 day ticket and full price lift+lodging people show up. We do not care about the fraction of season pass holders who want to ski in October and May. We do not care that we hurt access road businesses and the property prices for vacation homes with our shortened season. We are the elephant and those little birds that own businesses on the access road are eating the bugs off our back. We don't care that we are operating a business on state land. We don't care that we need local and state approval to build any real estate project. We are from Utah and Oregon and know better than backwards Vermonters or east coast city people. You have money. You will give it to us.

From a business point of view, I think they're making a big mistake:
Goodwill is seen as an intangible asset on the balance sheet because it is not a physical asset such as buildings and equipment. Goodwill typically reflects the value of intangible assets such as a strong brand name, good customer relations, good employee relations and any patents or proprietary technology.

Actually, I think this was more a shot at Stowe than Killington. Stowe was the place that got all the natural snow this winter and shut the doors on April 20th. I don't think you've seen the Killington jabs yet. If Win manages to keep Stein's open for next weekend and can push around enough snow to have an easier way down Spring Fling, you'll see the Killington assault in a few days.JerseyGuy wrote:You, sir, are an idiot. By the way, I had a number of Mad River people smugly tell me that they operated until 4:30 on closing day just to say they stayed open 30 minutes longer than Killington.

Is this one real?
If so, K-Mart just got SLAMMED !
(And they deserve it )
Shame Shame Shame
This message has to do with 1) Jay Peak, and how they flaunt their huge seasonal snowfall yet were closed the entire week and only reopening for the weekend, and 2) Mount Snow, and how they have been flaunting the edge to edge deep coverage by their fanguns, and yet remained closed the entire week and are also only reopening for the weekend.
It has nothing to do with Killington, K has reported fewer inches of snow this season, and has been closed reporting 0", where as other resorts were closed midweek this week, and yet still talkin about all their snow.
Skippy buy my tee-shirts they will get you SEX!

Did they also mention that MRG had been operating daily until 4:30 for the past few weeks or so.Geoff wrote:

The people at MRG are about skiing.
The new management at Killington, balance sheet bean pushers who can not even ski all of the trails at Killington.
That's the bummer and the point your missing ...at the moment it seems that's all kmart got going for it...to be successful ya need much, much more than just size.skiingsnow wrote:Thats exactly my point, it has nothing to do with size.since1961 wrote:SS - I understand your need to spin this as best as possible but if the "King of Spring" kmart has been proclaiming had to do with size then wouldn't kmart be the "king of winter"? I think Skippy is probably right here in that Sugarbush was (confusingly/obliquely) banging on the fact that we get more snow that they do but didn't run midweek. Nice work Skip.

you understand that all you mentioned is absolutely worthless without skiers and riders coming here. those 100 bars and restaurants you mention, but know nothing about, have been f*** by powdr by closing down early and excellent non marketing strategies through out the season, but yeah, powdr needs your money worse than you do. if your giving donations, come find me, i could use all the money your handing out...no people=no business=out of business...skiingsnow wrote:Most Snowmaking, Most Grooming, Most Lifts, Over 100 Bars/Restaurants, All Spread Out Among Many Uncrowded Mountainssince1961 wrote:That's the bummer and the point your missing ...at the moment it seems that's all kmart got going for it...to be successful ya need much, much more than just size.skiingsnow wrote:Thats exactly my point, it has nothing to do with size.since1961 wrote:SS - I understand your need to spin this as best as possible but if the "King of Spring" kmart has been proclaiming had to do with size then wouldn't kmart be the "king of winter"? Am I mistaken, or are we all talking about two different things, here?
I'm looking at the first post on this thread -- the one that showed the picture of a skier and the headline "Find Out Why Some Are Calling Us The King Of Spring".
We all do agree that that was a direct and successful slam on Killington, correct? Is there another mountain that's gone around calling itself the "King of Spring", and I just haven't noticed?
Some other folks have talked about a different interior message; I'm really only concerned with that headline.
By the way, Skippy's still an idiot. One congratulatory post from Steve and suddenly Jay Peak, the Skipnoser's Public Enemy #1, is now "alright"? And now Sugarbush is on his "naughty list"? Good God, Skip, do you think they care?
Who else thinks that Skippy's daddy didn't buy him enough ice cream cones when he was growing up?
