This is a situation where it would be appropriate to explain the unwritten policy that you buy drinks, give me a tip, and you get free wings. Or just be very slow delivering the wings and if they keep asking where they are - just say, paying customers get first dibs. Some people either don't get it, or knowlingly try to abuse the "system" - they need to told the how things work in life.

I was at Casey's one day and some young 20 something tool tried to pull that. He asked "Can I get some wings?" bartender asked him what he wanted to drink and he said water. Bartender kindly kept asking the guy what he wanted to drink - a beer, drink, or at least a soda or lemonade ? The dolt still didn't get the hint, so the bartender told him that water wasn't good enough and usually people will BUY a drink when they ask for wings. Finally the youngin' cracked open his wallet and got a coke.

Every place is ending free wings simultaneously???? Obviously a little collusion at work here. That won't last long. One of the places, looking for an edge, will bring them back. Personally, I have no problem with a "free wings*", where the fine print is with an X dollar purchase. Hey, buy what's expected, and tip your bartenders well.

Although it may seem that bars are making a killing on the cost of beer or drinks, there are a few factors in the equation that need to be included - cost of labor (bartender, cooks, dishwashers, wait staff, managers) , cost of fuel for heating, cost of fuel for cooking, workers comp insurance premiums, liability insurance premiums, building insurance premiums, property taxes, cleaning the building, cost of entertainment (including annual fees to ASCAP and BMI). There is also the cost of dishes, glasses and flatware which have to be replaced all the time. Throw in linens (bar mops, table cloths), paper goods, cleaning supplies and any upgrades such as new furniture, paint, carpet replacement as well as repairs to old items. Menus usually have to be reprinted each year and then there is the cost of advertising. I have probably forgotten a few items, but you see what I mean. Owning a business is definitely not about counting your profits. These days, you are lucky to be able to pay your bills.

I think the cleaning of the bathrooms has been put on the sidelines at most of these joints for some time now. They stink of urine throughout the season, not just during peak periods. A bottle of bleach is about $2 and would be a wise investment.

But really even if there are a "few" of these type offenders, there are more than enough people buying drinks at the bar to cover the costs of the wings.

M
how much do wings cost?
I was told at the Lookout that 25 lbs of wings cost about $73 now.

I can drive over to West Lebanon and buy boneless chicken thighs for $2.00 per pound at BJ's Wholesale. Chicken wings are way less than that. $3.00/pound just doesn't pass the sniff test even if I'm only buying a pound of raw chicken wings. I'd believe 50 pounds off the truck for $73.00.

Sounds like it could be a new business for you then.

Unless you think that all the bar owners are in collusion and are acting Powder like.

I just know what things cost in the grocery store. There's no way in the world chicken wings cost $3.00 per pound. "Somebody told me in a bar" always needs to pass the sniff test. In this case, it doesn't.

Well it was the owner, so I took him at his word.

wings do cost money abou 1.47 a pound at about 7-9 per pound and the cost usually goes up through february factor in the sauce the labor just to put cars in the lot theory is gone now so these places up here need to think of other profitable ways to put people in the stools during happy hour so dont think this is some cheap o thing that they are doing it is called trying to survive if you live on the road you will have seen the number of cars at the year round local places and see even those places are barron of cars after 8 at night

Food is cheep. The most expensive part is the person serving the food. Maybe, they should eliminate the bartender and waitress and let us serve ourselves beer and wings
