Re: Back Behind Saloon For Sale
I'm still amazed that they were making snow down there on Nor'easter, one of the mid station runs, on December 30th in 1995 shown in those photos. That would never happen today if that area was still open. It's all they can do now to get the main high elevation trails open at that time of year much less low elevation, low usage trails. When was the last time we had a good Christmas/New Years week? We used to have a good one about 1 out of every 4 or 5, now it's about 1 out 10 if that.
You can argue all you want about what is causing climate change - human activity, natural cycles, or whatever but you can't argue that it isn't getting warmer, that's just plain denial. How many ski areas in the northeast would survive today without snowmaking? How many ski areas in the northeast would have been built in the first place back in the 30s, 40's and 50's when there was no snowmaking had the climate been like it is now?

Re: Back Behind Saloon For Sale
Looks like it's still for sale. I'm guessing that the flood insurance is a major issue. $549,900 seems incredibly cheap if not for that. I think it started out around $650K.
It's permanently closed at the moment. Hope someone buys it and turns it back into the burger and a beer joint that it once was. I'm surprised Chris Karr isn't interested in it at that price.

Re: Back Behind Saloon For Sale
Doesn't seem like a great place for a restaurant these days, as all the action has moved to the basin area. I wonder if the property might be useable for residential development, but the flooding issues might be a problem for that, too.
Went to the back behind once a few years ago. Average food at best, and the place was totally empty except for my crew. Poor location with average food is a bad combo for success.

Re: Back Behind Saloon For Sale
The BBS originally opened in the early 70s, about a decade before Sunrise Mountain opened, and did fine under its original founders even without Sunrise Mountain. Also, Ramuntos in Bridgewater is a lot farther than the BBS and that place draws lots of Killington skiers as well as locals.
Jeff Gerhis who was one of the three BBS founders, went on to own and operate multiple businesses on the access road incuding Casey’s Caboose, Outback, the Garlic and others. He is one of Killington’s most successful entrepreneurs ever. He has since sold off all of his Killington interests, including his home and large property in Plymouth, and is now living in FL with a Garlic restaurant down there in New Smyrna Beach.

Anyone know if the BBS sold? The listing seems to have been removed.

Re: Back Behind Saloon For Sale
Not sold. Was undercontract when the July flood happened. That canceled the contract.
Heard after that the owners [Conrad and Corilla DeVille] decided to just give up and let it rot.
Saves me a lot of money! But, don't really wish that on anyone.

Re: Back Behind Saloon For Sale
Anyone heard anything new on the BBS? The listing seems to have been removed so it may have been sold.
I can't imagine that the Owners would just let it sit and rot.

Re: Back Behind Saloon For Sale
I heard a several months ago that it was sold to some sort of "neighbor" of the owners.KingsFourMan wrote: ↑May 21st, '24, 14:56 Anyone heard anything new on the BBS? The listing seems to have been removed so it may have been sold.

My friend, that had it under contract when the July flood hit, tried to buy it again but they didn't want to deal.
Have seen some minor "work" being done on it past few months.

What was your friends plans for it? I was hoping that someone would turn back into a casual burger and a beer type joint.Captain Hafski wrote: ↑May 22nd, '24, 08:43I heard a several months ago that it was sold to some sort of "neighbor" of the owners.KingsFourMan wrote: ↑May 21st, '24, 14:56 Anyone heard anything new on the BBS? I would have thought that Chris karr would have snapped that place up but I guess he owns enough in and around Killington.
