First of all, I am back today to check responses to my "CRS" posts, and am very disappointed. Not one person said "Oh, Ed, what a relief, I thought you really had something, I'm glad to see it was a joke." Nobody loves me.

Back to the topic of this thread, and especially an "Ignore" feature: Why can't people just used their own "self ignore" feature, and not take flame baits?? Like, I remember once Humpty once said something like that I had butt sex or something. I just said "meh. whatever." and moved on. That was that! It is shocking how many participate in flame wars or whatever, when they could just very simply ignore the offensive post. Well, maybe they are actually enjoying the flame war, you might think, but it certainly does not look that way. For example, if Andy Zee is ticked at this board, based on what I've seen, he kinda has only himself to blame. Not to pick on him, though; there are plenty of people who should just let things drop, or at least take a different tack with their replies.

Anyway, seems like common sense to me.
Es war sehr schoen.

Then on the other hand we've got the other people who want to keep going on harassing people/flame wars etc. and will shout loudly from the mountaintops of they think they've been wronged in any way (basically acting like babies).

So what'll it be? It seems like we can't have it both ways and can't satisfy everyone.

If we remain hands off we start losing some good people. Is there any way for the more vocal folks to rein it in just a bit? Or is that just impossible to ask?

I'm looking for suggestions from all types. Maybe if we get a consensus here we can take the board in the direction it should be moving.

Will November ever arrive?

Thoughts?
I've got the solution!!

Require everyone to update their email addresses, give everyone a week to do so.

Set the board so that you can not have a username with a free email address...(hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc...) Require someone to use a work email or some type of pay email service. This will in turn reduce a significant amount of the aliases that can be created within minutes by registering a new email account at a free site.

You can thank me later.

DMC here... Like your guys didn't know...

Unless you use your real name... Your using an alias..
I use aliases now for different things.. Mainly to get a point across..

Xjib was hammering me on some racist BS that I was against and making it known - I used this alias to make him mad and show him that he does the same exact crap...

It worked..

I used the Killington alias just as a joke... Pretending to be the mountain..

I revoked my DMC id password because every time I said something controversial or otherwise - either Shortski, Bling or Vinny jumped all over me... And I just didn't want to deal...

I gotta be honest.... I'm(and others here) are actually scared of some of the characters and things said here.. I've avoided some KZoners while at Killington cause I was afraid of what they may say or do...

There i said.. it...
It is true that all of our usernames are in fact aliases. Maybe I should have been more clear and called for a limit or end to people having multiple usernames on this site.

For what it is worth, I didn't know that you were DMC since I wasn't following the thread(s) you refer to. Though I have never met you I generally listen to what you have to say when it comes to ski related issues. You have a lot of experience and good thoughts to offer. Unfortunately, when I see a username that is obviously created to target an individual I usually tend to ignore it.

BTW the KILLINGTON thing was funny.

It's easy enough for the admins to pick out aliases.

But I actually use Yahoo as my e-mail provider so I don't like the "not free e-mail" idea...

Thanks for the idea, though. Keep 'em coming.

Why does the TGR not have these problems?
But they do have these problems, SkiDork. Every summer, as regular as a floodplain's returning waters, you have the usual flame wars. And some people have indeed fled TGR as a result. But for the most part, they stay. And the reason, IMO, is that friends there generally chime in with a friendly "Hey, f*** you buddy" and the troll tends to be silenced in this manner. Other times the flame simply dies down and people walk away to un-ruffle their feathers or whatever.

But one thing I will say about TGR...when a member in good standing is blasted or harrassed for no good reason, the blaster better stand back and get ready to be tarred and feathered by the more outspoken Maggots. Especially if tar-and-feathers is Mrs. Roo. That woman has some of the sharpest and most intelligent come-backs I've ever read!

Although if I suffer anther bad attack from someone on this board again...

I don't know what to tell you Dork. Generally speaking, I disagree with excessive moderation. However, things have been very out of hand here at times. I don't plan on taking the "ignore" option anymore though when somebody pisses me off. So far so good!

Maybe the email thing to limit aliases is a good thing. Aliases, while they can be amusing, are most often simply annoying. I wish people would just post as who they are (one alias). I have enough trouble keeping track otherwise.

Would some admin just re-set DMC's password and email him. Come back as yourself, dude!

I am sure you have a work email or some type of email account that you could use, hell your an admin make an exception since you need to deal with all th BS and complaints via email.

It has worked on other boards that I am on.
