Excuse me....didn't you just post this?
Should Killington have a polygamist weekend? Sure they threaten the family structure, but so do gays.
Or are you differentiating between traditional marriage and the family structure? And if by family structure you mean that a gay couple cannot procreate, then why should people who don't intend to have children get married?

Regardless of the politics of gay marriage, it's interesting to see the reaction of people to a Killington Pride Weekend. It will be just as interesting to see how many people attend the events and how straight people here that weekend (still presumed to be the majority) react.

WHAT is political about this thread? and if it is political why is no one screaming at killington to not "politicize" the resort? this is a social issue brought up in the chat forum as it pertains to K , its pride week and the effects of that on its patrons...
Agreed.

So let me ask a question. Is there anyone here who would NOT come to Killington that weekend because of the event? If so, why?

1) By being inclusive to the LBGT community and not to other minorities, you are also excluding those other minorities. I think for this reason it is tenuous ground for retail businesses to start choosing groups. It works for some... but it's tenuous ground.

2) Public discussion of sex has increased over the years, but I don't think it has reached the level of... say... hamburgers yet. Placing a sexual issue, regardless of being a protected class, out in the public domain as a public service provider doesn't seem to me to be respectful of those that don't want sex discussed in public, or in front of their chidren. Especially at a business that runs a family centered program(s). However, it is completely Killington's right and ability to do so.

3) Doesn't Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender already denote enough gayness? If we all agree to drop the 'G' we could have the BLT community, and that just sounds so much better.

4) Why wasn't there black parades, or a black cocktail hour, or a black dinner, or a black farewell brunch on MLK weekend? That sounds sorta exclusionary to me too.

5) What's the problem with gay couples being unable to procreate? At 7 billion, I think there's enough of us here. And fewer folks means less energy use means less carbon, so gay marriage = less global warming. Win Win!

Marriage structure, the make up of a marriage, and traditional marriage are two different things. Mr. Moose is right I looked the event up on the K website this morning and found it. I just used the same search and it is no longer there. Would it stop me from skiing at K? No, unless it became a very large event which I do not think is the case. A any rate, I would sincerely hope that my comments on this board even in a very small way did not cause K to cancel the event (if that is what happened).

How many will avoid K on "Ski Council" days because it gets too crowded?
How many will avoid K on known Rainy or icy days because it isn't the most fun or comfortable?
How many will avoid K on LGBT weekend because they perceive it will be uncomfortable for them that weekend?
What if they had a weekend for Cigar and Pipe Smokers (certainly a discriminated against and persecuted group with $$)
How many would avoid that weekend due to "second hand smoke"?

I applaud K for marketing to groups (Ski Clubs or Councils, College Students, Veterans, and HEQQ EVERYONE is Irish on St. Patrick's Day) but while attracting some group, that group's presence may repel others. Businesses should be free to promote themselves, or refuse service, to anyone and everyone they choose, knowing customers are free to choose where to spend their dollars based on their comfort level.

And to anyone pointing their index finger at Christians calling them "Intolerant Homophobes", realize you have three of your own fingers pointing back at you calling you a "Hypocritical Intolerant Biblephobe".

I have friends who were in Aspen for pride week and said it was the biggest party they were ever at and this was in the '90's. One word diversity.
My mom used to winter at Snowmass back then. I was there during pride week a couple of times. It brought in a ton of people during what was otherwise a pretty dead late-January week and was indeed a huge party. It's a very affluent demographic that spends freely. Smart business.

A party? That's easy, I'm in!

As for this nonsense about the LGBT community threatening "traditional marriage" (basically code words for denying a particular group their rights via hate, fear, and bigotry), it is important to remember that "traditional marriage" up until recently was a contract, where a woman's legal rights were transferred from the father to the husband. And no, this isn't about sex either, get your minds out of the gutter. It is about basic human rights and decency.

Clouding the issue with the "code word bla bla fear hate bigotry bla bla" is simply a way to rally the useful idiots... it is important to remember that "traditional marriage" up until recently was a contract, where a woman's legal rights were transferred from the father to the husband. freeski wrote: Welcome to K-Zone Nyknicks4412. I agree why does sexuality have to be used as a marketing tool? There has been a huge push of late to normalize homosexuality. You have all of the attention the media has paid to the NFL prospect coming out and the 10 day contact to the NBA player. ABC news is covering everything the NFL prospect says. He claims he just wants to be known as a football player. Okay, then why didn't you just keep your sexuality to yourself. I think this media push is partially to get all states to accept gay marriage. I think the next suppressed group will be polygamists. Should Killington have a polygamist weekend? Sure they threaten the family structure, but so do gays. I guess it just come down to where you draw your personal line of what you think is acceptable.
Killington should be free to have the event and those participanting should be allowed to enjoy and not be harassed.

FREE HUMPTY DUMPTY
How do gays threaten the family structure? I will assume you're married (with or without children). How do you feel your marriage threatened by gays or gay marriage?
Traditional marriage is a man and woman and children. Not man and man etc. I support gay marriage. I believe some people are born gay and should be allowed to marry who they choose. To play devil's advocate you can make the same argument for polygamy. However polygamy would have further social consequences. I do not hate gays. I worked with some when I was in Boston and socialized with them even went to house parties. I just think it is now accepted and does not need so much attention.
So...how does gay marriage threaten your traditional marriage? I'm still waiting for that answer.

By the way, traditional marriage used to be between a white man and a white woman or a black man and a black woman and, in many states, it was illegal to marry across races because it threatened traditional viewpoints.
in some places it is an elder to a child and in others a woman to whoever her parents tell her to marry... but we don't hold parades to celebrate that...

and as far as the "born that way" argument,if indeed that is the case why do we celebrate a birth defect? ( procreation is the ultimate role of every species, being "hardwired" to make that impossible would be a complete fail)

how does "bisexual" fit in with " born that way" ? are child molesters " born that way"? Zoophiliac's " born that way"? rapists? polygamists? is every " deviant" (departing from usual or accepted standards, esp. in social or sexual behavior.) behavior now acceptable? if so doesn't that eliminate any type of social mores and erode society itself? does it not create a "free for all" collapse of civilization eventually?

which leads me back to : If everyone were gay the world would be a much better place... In about 100 years...
why is everyone avoiding the real question at hand?
