NIght skiing at PICO

Pencil me in for a couple of nights a year.
I used to love the Night, or Twilight ticket at GGVV.

How did you guess??

To bad the towns people of Vernon were 2 stupid to vote 4 casino gambling the playboy club would still be rocking....now the dump is empty. 1,000 rooms just collecting dust.

Wonderful idea, but you need bedrooms close to the MOuntain, like Ski Sundown in Connecticut. Very successful with minimal vertical. Bu they do a great job of grooming and service the novice skiers. Great busines model for a small ski area.

Not 20,000 like Rutland, but more like 500,000 population.

They will not make money on it and people from rutland co. do not ski.

Not necessarily, while not exactly skiing, Sunday River has night tubing, and it attracts a pretty good number of people usually. After the village goes in (if it goes in...), I think they could definitely make something work with a small operation on snowshed or something around there. Set-up a tubing park and a small terrain park and light it.

Didn't they do both of those things last season? They had the tubing park open into the night, with that little snowmobile track thingy, and a couple park features at the bottom of Snowshed... The Snowshed Adventure Center I believe they call it.

Tubing at Pico, I like. Add skiing...well, still need a lot of bodies. And something to attract them, good lessons, good social scene...

What other areas are you talking about?

I've enjoyed night skiing at smaller mountains but don't see there being much market for it at Killington.

I thought about trying the tubing at Snowshed last year but my impression was that the bar was closed when tubing was open.

I have seen a big interest in NASTAR down in Mass at Wachusett.....if you've ever been there on a Thursday or Friday night the place is Jumpin'.

And don't anyone try givin' me that Killington won't support it because its not close to a big city line of nonsense because that vast majority of the Beantown, CT, NY and NJ crowd that skis with cash to burn are doing their skiing up north on weekends which is when I would proposed Killington offer night skiing (ie Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

I know many people with season passes who leave work early on Friday to head to Killington from out of state who would definitely take advantage of night skiing if it were offered.

Also the fastest growing segment in NASTAR is the over 60 crowd many of whom are retired with lots of time and money to sped and that segment is expected to grow exponentially as the baby boomers retire. Since Pico is already set for the kids to race during the day it wold be easy to open that section of the mountain to adults at night.

I am sure that some of the mountain ambassadors and others who work for K during the day would get into night skiing and NASTAR too.

You don't necessarily need that many people locally. Anyone ever been to Bousquet's in Pittsfield Mass? They do quite well being in a city of about 45000. Especially well considering that they are very close to Jiminy Peak which offers a heck of alot more night skiing. Catering to kids and local race teams is how to support night skiing, when I raced there back in high school they showed the races on closed circuit TV in the bar. Half of the parents sat in the bar all night for the race, it was a always a party in there. Imagine this at Pico if they lit up B-Slope?

Pico should run Nastar anyway, and then introduce the adult race leagues.
