Yeah, but what they really need is a high speed quad there. Don't worry, it won't change anything.skiadikt wrote:love the shot with old supe & skye lark in the background. classic, narrow new england nat snow trails before they became the groomed boulevards they are today.

Re: Old Killington pictures
My recollection is quite different. They were very popular trails when they were first cut.skiadikt wrote:![]()
in truth they weren't exactly the kind of trails you lapped. if i remember you accessed them from the k-chair (or the old gondy), off it was probably was great eastern (now launch pad) and it seemed like forever. think the first time i actually thought we were lost. there were no atomic 40's in those days ...
What they did to that side of the mountain is a crying shame.
I'm afraid when they install a new HSQ on Snowdon they're going to ruin the few old style New England trails left on the mountain. North Star happens to be my favorite trail, think it's going to be left the same after the new lift? I highly doubt it.

Gret old pics, unfortunately I didn't start skiing until 96 and skiing K from 2000 on. Only time I road the K double and old gondi was to mountain bike. I'm gonna miss that crappy Southridge lift! It was fun the few times it was open. Hope they really do replace it. I give it a 50/50 chance...

Re: Old Killington pictures
Personally I think their money would be better spent installing a new straight line lift over on South Ridge & installing snow making over there first. It would certainly help dispersing the weekend crowds a little more. Snowdon is just fine the way it is but I guess installing another high speed lift is more important for their marketing objectives. Anyone ever experience long lift lines over at Snowdon? I never have so what's the need for a high capacity lift there?RENO wrote:Gret old pics, unfortunately I didn't start skiing until 96 and skiing K from 2000 on. I'm talking about the proposed straight line lift at South Ridge that's supposed to go where the downline was. I'd also like to see the Snowdon quad/triple/both replaced with a highspeed lift.steamboat1 wrote:Personally I think their money would be better spent installing a new straight line lift over on South Ridge & installing snow making over there first. Yes, that WAS the "Skol Haus" motor inn. Across the street was the "Troll Inn" which later became Mother Shapiro's and now, with additions put on, "Sushi Yoshi".
Room rates at the Skol Haus included continental breakfast, in Dec 1972 were around $29 for a room for two per night. At Troll Inn, room rates ran $4-$6 per person per night.

Re: Old Killington pictures
I stayed in the Basin Inn in 1976 & 1977 before I bought my house. I had a deal for every other weekend in a bunk room with a shared bath, was me my wife and my 8 year old daughter, good times. The people I met back then are still in my life, and I'm a better person because they are..Powderputz wrote:"Access road. Not sure, but place on the right may now be the Happy Bear." Re: Old Killington pictures
roundabout, thanks for those pictures, that's awesome. That is about the time I started skiing Killington and how I remember it. especially love the Needle's Eye ones, not many pictures around from that time.
