I was thinking the same thing. It's far more comfortable to pass judgement from behind the keyboard than to have the "moral conviction" to actually say these things to Rick's face. It's not like you can't find him. And yes, I have spoken to Rick about this.Bubba wrote:For all those ready to string Rick up by the short hairs, boycott the shop, punish his family and employees or even those who are reaching conclusions about a pattern of behavior, etc.....how many of you have actually gone into the shop and spoken with Rick since this story broke or since he pleaded guilty? How many have confronted him face to face and said anything to him directly? Or, barring that, how many have spoken to his daughter, his wife, his staff and heard what Rick has told people? Or are you all just armchair Torquemadas and/or armchair Freuds?

Gee, bubba, that's like saying you wouldn't have voted against george bush in 2004 because you never met him and talked to him face to face.
sometimes you have to rely on news. and the news here is pretty convicting.
besides, what can he possibly say? do you honestly want him to explain getting off on girls snowprincess' age??
I'd rather just avoid the issue - and the place - all together.

Im with Steve on this one.....why bother confronting him on this issue??? Do I really care what his excuse is/was? Its all completely unacceptable behavior.Steve wrote:Gee, bubba, that's like saying you wouldn't have voted against george bush in 2004 because you never met him and talked to him face to face.

I've spoken to his family. I would like to point out that I am not anti Rick, re-reading my last post one might conclude that. I am advocating full disclosure, wherever that may lead. This whole thing saddens me, and I am still not sure how to handle the patronize/don't patronize hurt the rest of the family/employees dilema. I do know that jumping to decisions and conclusions can get you in trouble and in this case there is certainly no harm in waiting for more details to come forth. Even the most harshest of critics can let the store operate free of their wrath until the family makes it known just what the plans are long term for the store.Bubba wrote:For all those ready to string Rick up by the short hairs, boycott the shop, punish his family and employees or even those who are just reaching conclusions about a pattern of behavior, etc.....how many of you have actually gone into the shop and spoken with Rick since this story broke or since he pleaded guilty? The GWB analogy fails due to the fact that you were able to see and hear GWB talk, hear his positions on issues, etc., whether or not you met him face to face. What people here are doing is more like reaching a decision on who to vote for based on what others say rather than checking the candidate's positions yourself.Steve wrote:Gee, bubba, that's like saying you wouldn't have voted against george bush in 2004 because you never met him and talked to him face to face.

Note - there is no arguable position in favor of what he did.

Rick Torrey
What he's done is not good to say the least. He will pay for his...indiscretions. But to hurt his families business and the employees that work there is more fitting of a public lynching of a whole lot of innocent people. Because he did this then all who associate are then guilty too?
I for one can't do that. They've provided good service so as far as I'm conerened

You're right. There's no justice in punishing them.Gimp wrote:Why would anyone want to punish Ricks family? They are about to lose their husband and father.
But I also have no reason to be particularly sympathetic. I feel bad, but there is no way to support them without supporting Rick, too. And when there are a lot of great shops all over Killington and elsewhere in Vermont, why shouldn't I go to them instead?
You don't need to be anything. Go away and shut up.

What a load of sh*t.Bubba wrote:For all those ready to string Rick up by the short hairs, boycott the shop, punish his family and employees or even those who are just reaching conclusions about a pattern of behavior, etc.....how many of you have actually gone into the shop and spoken with Rick since this story broke or since he pleaded guilty? First off, notice how everything is grouped together: 1)string rick up by the short hairs 2)boycott the shop 3) punish the family and employees. They're all the same, right? You know, for those here who pay lip service to respecting the opinion of those in favor of a boycott, you really seem to like to have it both ways. " I respect your opinion, Mr. armchair Torquemada." F*ck you for making that comment. Either you respect the right of those to boycott the shop or you don't. You can't have it both ways, dumbass.
And to answer your question, I already told everyone here that I never will shop at the Basin again and I will make sure that everyone I know is aware of what Torrey has done and that they should make up their own minds about whether to shop there again. But I will tell you this, if I see Torrey on the hill I will be in his face with a piece of my mind about what he has done to this community, his friends, his family and the most of all, the children victimized by slugs like him that buy this filth.
I read here that he was out on the hill today. I looked for him , let me tell you. Is he incognito after the guilty plea or did I just miss seeing that piece of sh*t?
