FOR REALLY.......?!?!?

I think that's pretty damn good form for hitting a 2 ft water bar at 30 mph after a manditory GS turn. You can see where I make the hard right turn after I pass the camera, back on my tails, and then a quick hop/pivot turn left at the last second to setup and hit the waterbar squarely.........then make two turns after that.

There's so much expert technique going on in this video that I wouldn't expect most of you guys to even be aware of half the things I do on skis.....

Dude theres no way around that poor form...waterbar or not...BEND YOUR KNEES and absorb the water bar...before even that you look completely out of control legs VERY wide....just looks ugly man...

Plus a SKILLED skier wouldve avoided the waterbar completely...seems you were out of control hence the speed going into the waterbar.

I would expect you of all people to understand what "mank" or "hot pow" is....and what is required to ski it sometimes. In the clip, that's ~2 ft of untracked manky snow that had been sitting in the sun for 2-3 days, and hadn't been skied. To come into that at speed off the pitch, it was wise to go back to keep from going over the bars. In fact, you can see me bobble slightly in the turn transistion as I pass the camera - that's because I let me skis come back under me slightly and almost get thown forward......I throw a bit of a "twist-shrug" body move to push my skis back out in front, and then rail the right turn with my back to the camera - off the back 2 feet of the skis.

While technically I would be considered to be in the back seat, my upper body is actually in a neutral or slightly forward position. That means I'm in control and command of the turn. My mass is centered. I'm imply just making a turn off the tails of the skis....being able to do that is a trick which can be quite handy sometimes.

In all seriousness, I would like take advantage of the above pictures to point out the difference between the bad way, and the worse way, to ski in the Back Seat. By Highway Star.

I'm skiing the the "bad" way.....big bird up there is skiing the "worse" way.

Note the Pelvis.

My upper body position is quite normal in the above pictures, and I continue to hold that postion throughout the turn (see the other vidcaps, video, etc). My torso is generally upright, with a slight amount of lean in. My shoulders are in front of my pelvis. My arms are ahead of my shoulders, driving forward. I'm sticking my ass out like a stripper. If you only look at from the pelvis up, it's hard to tell what I'm doing with my skis - they could be under me, behind me, etc. So, even though I'm clearly romping on the backs of my boots and balancing on the last 2 feet of my skis, I'm maintaining a strong, neutral upper body position, and am completely in control of the turn....turning simply by riding on the bend of the tails, with some angle. I know it's bad, but subjectively, I really do like the turn....it's powerful, controlled, with flair, and highly unorthidox. If you're going to ski something back seat, do it like a man.

Now, Bigbird up above is demoing for us classic intermediate-advanced backseat powder technique. Again, Note the Pelvis. Bigbird is thrusting like he just saw a hot chick. His outside foot, knee hip socket, shoulders and head are all in a line....his arms are a bit forward, but virtually by his sides. His upper body is in the back seat......while I hesitate to declare that he's about to fall over, he doesn't look particularly in control or in command of the turn. Not sure if it's just a moment where his weight goes back, or if he's skiing the whole run like that. It's almost like he's trying have an upright stance, but he has tipped back to keep the skis up and has forgotten to unlock his pelvis.

The thing to take away from this, overall, is:

1. Ski like a man.
2. Use more Pelvis.

HAHAHA.....dude, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Skiing the fiddle with that kind of speed, with GS turns, in that kind of cover, is INHERENTLY going to lead to sketchy, semi-out of control skiing....NO sh*t!!!!!! The fact that I keep turning, and keep upright are the key, key factors....PROOF of good skiing. I ski at the edge of control, quite often......but I don't fall...because I know what the hell I'm doing. Sometimes my technique is clean, sometimes it's crazy. But I always stay on my feet. You'd be amazed at how fast and agressively I ski without falling.

You should be noting the dozen differnent things I do in the clip that they don't teach you in ski school....you might learn something.

Keep me feet more together....... Sure buddy. You've been spending too much time with Herald Harb or bump skiers.

Avoid the waterbar??? Maybe you missed the part where I said the entire line was "manditory turn"..........ie. ROCK SLALOM. I'm turning where I'm turning to dodge rocks, either exposed or obvious submerged. The line went right into the waterbar, so I went over it. Do you KNOW why there was "hot pow" there that day? Because it was VERY, VERY closed, nobody had skied the rock line for 3 days after the last snow. We had to pick our way down the rock garden after that shot, and it sucked pretty bad.

OK dude..whatever.....go look at the pic i posted earlier in the post...thats a 45 degree pitch and its in about 2 feet of MUSH....mank..whatever you wanna call it....

THATS FORM...

Hint and key to your "out of control skiing" is that there was no real REASON TO GO THAT FAST....if you had stayed a little more in control the GS turn wouldnt' have been necessary to check speed....you also would've hit the waterbar a LOT slower....ummm yeah and I know the Fiddle pretty well in both open and closed conditions.....I still know how to ski in control..

you were clearly out of control and you had to do some things "they dont teach you" because they wouldnt ever teach that crap..
