Granted I'm probably the wrong messenger for hating on Greenwich and all that it encompasses; given that my parents probably spend close to 1/2 a million on my education, and to show for it I'm making just a shade under 20k a year which makes me a huge disappointment at all the social events when parents talk about what there kids are doing with their lives.
But I was never as comfy as the rest of my family when we lived there. We all went to the right day/prep schools, belonged to the right clubs, and I'd be completely lying if I told you I didn't take full advantage of being wealthy.
But I could never square the fact that we and the rest of Greenwich lived so well while people in Port Chester and parts of Stamford were living paycheck to paycheck. It just never sat well with me, I dunno, I'm idealistic as hell. Yeah, I get it people are generally poor cause they're stupid and don't know any better. One of the people that works with me is getting almost $7000 in her tax refund and instead of throwing the money in the bank or buying healthcare or investing in her 401k, she's on her way out to buy a new flatscreen TV to replace the one she bought last year. 2 months from now she's gonna be crying to us all that she has no money to pay for her rent.
But that doesn't mean I can't look at my parents and the new 5 million dollar, six bedroom townhouse they bought in Stamford(when there are only 5 people in the family and 3 of them don't live at home anymore) and question if there's enough money to build and buy something like that, why are children in this country going to go hungry tonight.

Greewich is well represented at Killington, dont take that for granted - just take a look around the lots and you'll see beach stickers everywhere. But its not just Greenwich - it is all of Fairfield Co - Darien to Ridgefield and all stops in between.
And no - a 1% option tax will not change their spending behavior. But we all know change occurs at the margin - and govt programs run by committees, while concieved in good faith, rarely succeed in replacing those that do exhibit elestic demand. Those that came at 10% but left at 11% - whatever the current sales tax levels are.
Its people like me that say - you know what... $70 for gas, $100 @ Moguls, $10 @ Killington Deli (what a good sandwich), every weekend...plus $4000 for ski house, $1200 for passes...I would rather buy a house, or a car, or save for education, or make my IRA contribution sooner next year.
Unfortunately, IMO, Killington proper and Killington the resort are essentially the same. Im coming for Killington the resort - where there may happen to be a lax tourney, or golf tourney

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

Finished basement, unless walk out, is not included in square footage, nor is the attic unless fully livable and aproved. If that is 6000 sq ft, I must have 2000, but I know better.SPORE wrote:Finshed basement, walk up attic. For those arguing pro or con on the tax, wondering how we got to this point, and trying to understand some of the background, the minutes of the last Selectboard Meeting might help.
