C'mon, Win, it was a weekday.Win wrote:
By the way, when everyone ranks on my fellow competive resorts. We were the only resort open in Vermont today and there were only 350 people on the mountain. What we all need to do it to get more people to understand how good skiing and riding is in Vermont in the Spring. I would like more to stay open late because there is the demand for spring skiing in the East wel into April! Those of us who are fanatics need to convince others to come out this time of year!
Unfortunately, the forecast this weekend is not as bluebird sunny as last weekend. That's what really brings people out is a good thursday night forecast for the weekend. Your not really in the ski business, you know, you're in the weather business.
We will still be there, and I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on marketing spring skiing.
What occurs to me is:
Keep the intermediates engaged as long as possible. Takes more work and more snow.
Take some cues from Jimmy Buffet.
Inform the public of your plans.
Spring skiing is harder. Give them something else to do as well.
If you really want to commit to spring skiing, find some inexpensive 90mm skiis for a bulk rental program, and promote that.
Prepare to weather the inevitable bad weekends.
Make sure the band is outside and plays to 6.
