No, old is if you remember pulling the props through by hand first one whole rev to make sure no oil collected in the lower cylinders which would create hydraulic lock on start.

That's not old, that's one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. The brown shoes were gone by the time we got there but we were happy to see the T-38/F-5 retro-fitted with AOA indicators ( not that you really needed them - one more thing to take the "feel" out of flying for the students).

i was skiing the snow fields on mt. washington years ago, we stopped when we heard a loud roar, out of no where came on of these F-thingys, it was just about at eye level maybe 50 yard away, i waved to the pilot, he waved back, then he was gone out of site in seconds. I've never witnessed any thing like that before. the hairs on the back of my neck still rise thinking of it.

oh ya…day 22

Just once? Man, the older ones you needed to do three times. As to the jet fighters, my Dad was one of GE's wonder kids who built some of those engines in the fighters. I know a lot of this stuff because of him.

Not me. It was my father that spent a large part of his career working on the radio systems in the F-14's. He has be gone for some time now, so yes, you guys are old!

9 days on the 9th with the pass, appears someone added my express and voucher days to the count. Another short day due to the early moisture and ice. Snowing pretty good when I left.

Need to find someone to fix my log in so my days show up on my on line account. Showed up on the pass office so there must be a 2nd account from the past, or the log in is connected to my early season Express Card.

Sorry, I was sloppy there. One whole rev meaning one turn through all 4 cycles, which is 2 full turns of the prop. You want the exhaust valve on the lower cylinders to open and drain oil into the exhaust manifold (and then onto the ground, or now into an approved DEP container, :!: Should the engine stop just after the low cylinder exhaust valve closed, it will take 2 prop rotations to come back and open that valve. If you do 3, I guess you are just being sure you weren't able to count to 2.

You rocket jocks never did know your platforms with wings. :P That's better known as a Tomcat a.k.a. F - 14. " Sorry Maverick, the pattern is full."
I remember seeing the first one live at Holloman AFB, NM, heading back to take off after a gas stop. At the end of the runway he rotated and went straight up, burners blazing, and continuing to accelerate till roll over to level at 10K, according to departure control. First bird with > than 1:1 Thrust :weight - pretty impressive for the time.
Actually, the correct quote is:

"Negative Ghost Rider. The pattern is full."

That's what my girlfriend used to tell me when I was trying to get my freak on, but she would be having none of that.

Jester, out.

LOL, Humpster. You should have just told her you were "going balls to the wall" and you would have been fine.

And now you can go back to adjudicating HEADwalls and certifying ski days for those in this monumental thread.

Even though Maine did not get as much of the white goods that Vermont got, I still enjoyed the skiing. Day 11. In honor of day 11, I present the Grumman F-11 Tiger, the first aircraft to shoot itelf down! It did this by test firing its 20 MM cannon in a dive, then steepening its dive. As the shells trajectory and velocity decayed, the aircraft ran into its own shells and became disabled.

Day 12 today. In honor of day 12, the YF-12A Fighter interceptor. While it LOOKS like the SR-71, this is the fighter prototype of the same airframe.
