Although Superstar is a vital lift with many hours on it, if it weren’t for the World Cup I doubt we’d see that prioritized. The plan for moving it seems poorly thought out. Leave it where it is. Lately, POWDR’s interest in infrastructure seems to extend no further than improving how the resort is perceived during the World Cup. Anything else is just a needless expense.

the thing is 30 years old this year. The bear minimum at this point IS an overhaul. Didn't have any major stoppages while I was there this year but I also didn't ride it all that often.

There is a legal liability issue here too. Skyeship is now known to be in pretty bad shape. An injury causing accident would be very expensive. For that reason alone they should make sure that, at minimum, all the doors are working properly.

I think the best of both worlds at this point is new Sigma 8 cabins just like K-1 received. That would require no major overhauls and resolve one of the longstanding issues that is getting worse. If that puts SS or RH replacement back a year so be it, both of those lifts are functional and from the customer perspective, reliable.

Once Alterra buys out Powdr maybe they will put a new gondola in. Or scale back and get rid of the hardly open useless terrain.

Isn't that terrain down there popular with the intermediate and family crowd? Killington is in short supply of that terrain as is. Losing that access point would suck.

Aww. Sorry I hurt your feelings. Your 30+ years of managing some ski stuff doesn’t line up with my ideas. Weird. It’s an online forum with opinions. Welcome to internet.

If they close Skyeship Killington won’t even have the most vertical in town. Pico will have that honor. I don’t see that happening in our lifetime.

If I had my choice, it would be rebuilt, and Stage 3 put back in, at least to the top of South Ridge Quad, if not some way to shoehorn it up to the peak so one could walk/ski to the Peak Lodge. I know everyone will say they hardly ran Stage 3 in the old days of bad weather, but with modern tech, I'm sure they could come up with the necessary solutions. They are going to have give some serious consideration to expanding the parking down at Skyeship base at some point, to help make up for what they plan on losing in the Village plan.

In theory wouldn't a 6 pack have more capacity than the Gondi?

And a high speed quad puts more people up the hill than a 6-pack. /thread-hijack.

I'm sure this has all been rehashed here but why wouldn't they just do that.......

Get people up to Needles -

Replace Needles and Stage 2 with a 6 pack - problem solved - except on a windy day.......

I think they will try to hold on to it as long as possible. But it's also possible at some point that it becomes no longer financial viable. See e.g. Northeast Passage.

6 and 8 packs can be designed to be more wind resistance. Sunday River installed the Jordon 8 for just that reason.
