Well then, don't elect hack politicians.

What you seem to miss is if judges must worry about re-election, this will naturally bias their legal decisions towards the public opinion du jour. In our current system, once a judge is appointed, the influence of the current political climate and fleeting public opinion is minimized. Thus, decisions can be made on the basis of law, not the emotions of the day.
Yeah, because judges are known quite well for keeping their personal bias and emotions out of their decisions, as well as not thinking about what others think of them, and only make decisions on the basis of law.

Anyone here going?
No offense but this is Vermont's legal system you are talking about. The one where if you are a child molester you get off scott free. On the news the past 3 years you just keep hearing how some Judge in Vermont let a child molester off scott free or with probation.

Granted this guy dealt in child pornography and not molestation, but what he did enabled it. The man deserves to spend atleast 3 years in prison. IN GENERAL LOCKUP

And the reason child molesters do not last long in prison. Because most of the men in there were molested as a child in some way. So when a childed molester is killed in prison most prisoners feel like they are killing the man that molested them. A friend of mine is a prison psycologist and we had a long conversation about this the other night. Stats are shocking.
Is the lift open yet?

Dammit. I need new skis, but won't go there until he's in the can.
It's not like there is a lack of ski shops in the Killington area....

Right. If that's what you keep hearing, perhaps you need to listen a bit better.

Torrey has pled guilty to possession of child pornography and will be sentenced accordingly.

For those who think he's going to jail, keep in mind that the court has allowed him to travel at least since he plead guilty. He may have traveled outside the country as well as domestically. I doubt they would have allowed that if he was going to be jailed. My bet for sentencing is a suspended sentence, community service, counseling/therapy and possibly a fine/court costs or something like that.

Fear not, as Torrey is charged with a Federal offense and will be sentenced in Federal court under Federal guidelines by a Federal judge.
