That deal might be a little too good. No jail time? Defense counsel's going to impeach the hell out of him with that when he testifies. Depending on the evidence it might not make that big of a difference, but it'll be easier for defense counsel to argue that this guy is just saying whatever the prosecution wants to avoid going to jail.

He's setting up the appeal. "The judge couldn't have ruled fairly because he had to be biased due to my having attacked him regularly prior to trial." Not sure that's a wise legal strategy.

It's a common legal strategy for the defense to bring up the fact that a witness agreed to a plea bargain in return for testimony. It goes to witness bias. It's often pretty difficult to prove perjury when all you have to go on is the conflicting, self-serving testimony of a bunch of co-conspirators.
