Saturday MLK Weekend Report

Stuck to the Rams Head, Snowdon and Skye Peak areas today. Snow is good all over, holiday weekend crowds aren't bad most times on the slopes but KBL was about as crowded as I've seen it all season. Best runs were Chute and Great Bear, skier's right on Mouse Trap which was mildly bumped, middle Ovation skier's left below Launch Pad and Superstar which, although it had had the week's powder bumps groomed out, had a pretty nice powder surface to play on. Heard that Double Dipper was skiing really nice left and right sides but didn't venture over to the Canyon area today. Worst run I took was Blue Heaven coming off the peak and heading over to South Ridge hoping that Jug would have enough to take a run on. Unfortunately that was not the case and, while it was carvable, was skied down to slickness in the shade and was uber gapered the one time I hit it.
Stayed out from about 10:00 to 1:00 and then came home to eat and do some other things this afternoon.

Whiners! Wait until tomorrow.
Seriously, it was nippy but it wasn't especially cold. I think it was in the teens up to maybe the low 20s with a good breeze from time to time and, as the clouds rolled in, it certainly got colder as time went on, but it was not cold nor was it really icy anywhere I went.

best snow, skier's left sstar & needles, vertigo, skier's right, rotd, upper needles. one tree run, doable, but there's only 3-4" of pow in there on top of a slick and hard surface. a few more inches should do it. OL skied nicely too. nice snow on almost every trail, just need to find it. very cold early, left foot froze, but by the end of the day i was warm. crowds spread out nicely, small lift lines, great day of skiing for a holiday weekend.

I got yelled at by an ambassasor for poaching Vertigo headwall. I'd accessed middle Vertigo from Panic Button and this tool on a power trip felt the need to show his might in spite of the fact that I hadn't ducked any ropes to get there.
Vertigo was pretty nice other than around the Snowshed Xover. Cascade headwall was nice velvet and Cascade was still holding up at 3:00. The K1 had a moderate line but it wasn't all that busy for a Holiday Saturday.
It was getting pretty chilly at the top by mid-afternoon. Single digits with some breeze.

Spent the day at Pico where Q-Ball had his first real race and did great.
They set up lower Pike for the six year olds from the Killington and Pico Ski Clubs and ran 75 kids through two runs each in a bit over two hours.
Mostly Sunny and 20's getting colder as the day went on.
Snow conditions ranged from wonderful on most of the groomers to variable in most of the trees.
Q-Ball and I ran laps on Upper/Lower Ace of Clubs while we waited between his first and second race runs.
Expressway was in some of the best shape it's been in this year.
While he ate lunch in the lodge with mom I went up top.
Upper KA and Upper Sunset '71 were both amazingly fun.
It's nice to see them both open again.
Race training on B-Slope was starting up again just as I reached the top of the LPT.
A special "pfffft" goes out to C-Slope for the nasty crust on top of cement and ice with a side order of stream crossing the trail.
Demo note: I was on a pair of Nordica Hot Rod Nitrous skis.
A nice relaxed all mountain ski that still carves well.
Perfect for a day on the hill with kids, but fast and stable when you open 'em up.

Mid Superstar was best run of the day, only did one run b/c I didn't want to endure the crowds on 4way. :(
Rime was in good condition for hi-speed carves this morning.

I thought in general there was some serious ice hiding on most trails. The type that looks like someone left a hose running for a couple of hours.
Crowds were not bad at all for a holiday weekend. Gota love those black out passes. keeps the rif raf away.

Cold off the sumit chair, but KA and Sunset were sweet. Sunset stayed nicer later in the day. They were using the overflow lots, but I got in pretty close at 12:30. Pretty crowded but nothing crazy.

Tomorrow is looking to be great as well!!!
Sunday: Snow showers likely. Cloudy...a high near 5. Wind chill values as low as -10. wind 7 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation 60%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible!!!!!!
We had a freakin awesome night at the Corners Inn, I'd have to look again, but I think we beat last year and the year before by over 20 dinners, and we are always very busy this hldy wknd ! ! !
Thanks for the reports guys!!!! I have to wait for Monday, dang blackout pass!!!!
Was the SRT open today? Lift report says it will be tomorrow!!!! Even though that terrain isn't open, it is a nice connecter lift from Bear/Skyeship to K peak, Canyon, and Snowdon.

True dat. However, I think after we told the ambassador that we did not have snowboards on and it was two riders and a skier who poached the headwall, I think the ambassador realized it wasn't us and was a little embarrassed that he yelled at us. He did come off a little harsh at first but like I said after you put him in his place, embarrassment took over. He was very apologetic realizing that we were just "looking" up at the headwall. After you skied off, he kept saying to me "I'm sorry, have a nice day and enjoy." Yea, leave me alone now to ski and I'll have a nice day and enjoy.
If there was a few more inches out there the headwall would have been pretty good.

DITTO!!!! And had a great time. Skied with G-Smashed, DTE and Phantom before the 10:00 and then hooked up with Atomic, Mr. G, Geoff, Phantom, Bobby G(?), Snowjob for a the rest of the time, went to Bear, Needles area, etc. After the day I realized I didn't do SS and darn, I heard it was nice.
