OT / NSR : Passport?

Post by XtremeJibber2001 »

Anyone ever needed to obtain a passport within a months time?

Curious if anyone has used an "expediting" service? Given the current state of the passport mess I don't know if I trust the gov'ts "expediting" services.

At the moment, it shouldn't take much more than a month to get a passport using the regular slow method through the post office. If you wait for the summer rush, it could back up significantly.

I used the expedited service, when it got dicey I called
the number, and they finished the processing, and FedEx'd
the passports to me overnight, so the expedited service works
somewhat, but if you get too close to your departure time CALL THEM.

What service did you use? Or did you go through the gov't?

You guys are nuts. If you need it in a month or less, haul your butt to
a facility and get it in a week or less. There are only 13 regional facilities
in the whole country, but there's one right in NYC. Why would you mess around?

From the passport website:

At a Passport Acceptance Facility*
or
By Mail (for renewal, additional pages, and amendment) requesting
Routine Service, you'll get it in four to six weeks.
You gonna trust them on that?

Expedited service:
Plus Overnight delivery service for:
Sending your application and Returning your passport to you -
We will process your application within about 3 Weeks

I'd go into the city if I were you. I did.

I believe you need an appointment to go to one of those centers. I remember when we needed to get Iceman's passport quickly, we couldn't get an appointment for NYC and we had to go to Philadelphia to get his passport.

Yes, you need an appointment, but they're not hard to get. You gotta have some time to stand in line even with an appointment. I've done it twice in the pass couple of years. It just seems like a better idea if you're in a hurry, than doing everything via e-mail or snail-mail or telephone.

Well, thanks to Bush...sounded like I needed one for Canada.
AMAZINGLY-got the passport in less than 3 weeks...WITHOUT expedited, fedx, etc.
I had an expired passport, within the GVT time frame for renewal.

Previously ..Stamford CT...wasted half a work day, could not give me a passport same day...so another half day wasted to go back and get it.

hhmmmm...
check your location and ask...

From your experience, I'm guessing that the hype on the website may be true, in that they really have employed more people, etc.

January of '05 and March of '06 they were hopelessly behind. It's good to know that things are better.

My 1st ever trip out was to Japan and I had a week. You have to have a reservation and then expidite it to get fast service. I believe I went to an office in Stamford to apply and had it 3 days later. If you don't have the reservation, expect a couple weeks minimum. Through the post office it took me about a month to renew.

I've used these guys:

http://www.itseasy.com

Pros -- very convenient, professional, no redunkulous waiting in line or getting up at crack of dawn.

Cons -- pricey.

($75 in addition to gov't fees for the 15 business day service)
down thousand drops of death, bear mountain quad to watch the bumpers, but we be hittin Bear's Ass cuz we be the cliff jumpers..
