Stop and Shop

Is no more. Heard it when in Albany area, and now it has come to pass. Hanniford's got the lease on the building and moved. Place is HUGE, but what a PITA to find things. And, more crowded than ever before. This will take some getting used to.

For anyone not knowing, S&S was in the Dick's plaza area on 7. Now it is Hanniford's, easily accessable from Rt. 4 and 7.

Time will tell if they bring back their old quality.

Are you saying that all the Stop & Shop are closing? We have one in the next town and as of last weekend I still got a circular for it.

Um, no, the one that was supposed to open in Rutvegas. Now why would I mention Rt. 4 and 7 for ALL S & S? BUT, rumor has it they are down sizing due to cost overruns.

I shopped in that Hanniford's last week. It wasn't that bad but then all
I needed was stuff to make breakfast.

No, all Stop and Shops are not closing as far as I know. They just built
a huge new one not far from us. And they deliver.

I'm confused. Wasn't there already a Hannafords right next to the Mac's Citgo station?

There was already a Hannaford in RutVegas. Stop and Shop came in and built a brand-new store but never actually moved in, and the place sat empty for a year or so. Hannaford just bought the new building from Stop and Shop and moved into it themselves.

I guess there's now another empty building -- the old Hannaford -- in Rutland. I can't see someone else moving in there right away...

no reason to be confused early on a Friday big guy.
Hannaford's next to the Macs convience store closed. It has moved into what was going to be the Stop & Shop where Dick's Sporting Goods, Staples, Petco and 99 Resturant is. I haven't been there yet, I'm a Price Chopper guy myself, but I hear it's a very large grocery store. Maybe next week if I get stuck with doing the weekly shopping, I'll swing by Hannaford's to check out the buzz. Who know's maybe I'll even post a TR. I'm crazy like that you know.

sure about that? grocery chains aren't in the biz of owning real estate. more likely scenario is the owner/developer of the shopping center leased the premises to Hannaford.

It's a weekly, dude. You'd never stay on top of the fast paced world of grocery stores with a quarterly.

It's always worth checking out a new store, but in my experience, as an actual Vermont resident, Price Chopper does better on price, almost all the time. For those of you visiting Killington and wondering where the PC is, check out their web page at http://www.pricechopper.com/StoreLocato ... 6L543505AB

Absolutely. I was in the store and the other is for Lease. I also met the project manager for the renovation of the S&S store before they made the move. He was upset that the layout was not typical Hannafords, but that they had new management and people to make it work. Lots more isles and products, but was a total zoo on a Thursday night. Time will tell how it works out. One problem is access to the lot. 2 ways in and one way out and a lousy turn to get to the light.
