Head For the Hills

Post by TreeLine »

Can anyone comment? I am a big fan of their movies, but just wondering if this one is worth the buy. I liked snow gods a lot, but wasnt as big a fan of Wunderland - too much park action for my liking. Either way , i will probably buy it just to support some east coaster's but I was just looking for some thoughts on their newest film.

Maybe just me, but felt like more of the same. My favorite part was the extra "Head for the Hospital".

Really? I found Wanderland to be remarkable, while Snow Gods was just good. The Tug Hill segment was incredible.

The problem Meatheads suffers from is it's REALLY tough to shoot big mountain footage and I think they've figured out that it's a lot more cost effective to build and film a kicker or find a rail vs shooting big mountain stuff. On the other hand I really did enjoy Will's playground segment, it's not my style of skiing, but it was very creative and well shot.

Like Wanderland, Head for the Hills is highly park driven, but I think the Backcountry footage is a lot better in HFTH then it was in Wanderland. Some of the NH stuff is complete INSANITY, and the stuff from Quebec is fantastic. There's also a nice little 2 minute segment from Magic which was fun to watch since I was skiing with them that day.

I'm also not the biggest fan of Radio Ron, I appreciate that he's got a huge amount of passion for bump skiing, but he can't hold a candle to the likes of Hammer, and if it wasn't for the AM/FM radio and neon one piece I feel like he wouldn't have a spot in the films.

In the overall Meathead Films hierarchy for me it goes

1. Born From Ice
2. Epoch
3. Snow Gods
4. Head For the Hills
5. Elevated
6. Wanderland
7. Schooled

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

True I'd put the Tug Hill segment among the all time Meat highlights, but the rest of the movie was rather bleh. There's only so many times I can watch someone slide the same rail or hit the same kicker

I can see your point. I have a background in park, so I recognize what they are doing. Their park footage is actually incredibly innovative as well.

I feel that they do a really great job of blending EC skiing of all types in their recent movies.

Oh absolutely, even someone without a park background like me can see that what the meatheads are really different when it comes to park. As I said the will wesson segment was incredible from the perspective of both the skier and a shooter. My issue is it just becomes hard for me to digest the longer booter segments because I can't dicern the difference between a cork 360 with a mute grab and a rodeo 3 with an indy.
