Access Road Ski Shops

At the risk of starting an inflammatory thread, has anyone been in the Basin recently?

There's a well-known ski instructor working there now, and of all things I saw Jerry Lewis there recently. For years, Jerry was the manager of Northern Ski Works. It sure was a surprise seeing him walking around the racks. I thought he was scouting the competition. I don't know what happened between him and Northern, and it seems like the Basin is hiring.

I know that a few of the shops already have "Sale" signs out front.

Some shops are on their second mark down already. Isn't March the usual beginning of the sale season?

A neighbor of mine went in there recently and was so displeased with the service that he said they've lost his business forever. We have not gone in there this season at all. We now do business with the Forerunner ski shop.

I'm sure the economy is not helping any of the ski shops, nor are the reduced crowds on the mountain. I would also assume that to some degree The Basin's business has been affected since it came out that the owner is a pedophile. That being said, I seem to remember most years stuff starting to go on sale at all the shops sometime in early February.

With the early closing, the sales came earlier last year. It used to be that the sales started Presidents Week. If Killington turns into a ghost town on April 19th, you have to unload all your inventory before then.

SPANKY, I can't believe you even had to ask where is "there" Of course it is the Basin.... NORTHERN SKI WORKS HAS AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE !!! Mary Fiore is the new Manager of NSW and is doing a great job. She has been with them a long time. I haven't seen Jerry since he left NSW but I did hear he is happy in his new position. I wanted to wish him well, but I do not feel comfortable going into the Basin...

Our experience with NSW customer service has been poor. We looked at helmets there 4 weeks ago, and the ladies seemed more interested in chit-chatting among themselves than asking if we needed help. We left.

Turns out we were in there again last week, still looking at helmets. Another round of neglect while we were looking at the helmets. So, we take a chance and pressed our case at the counter to ask:

"Do you have have box this comes in?"

"No, we throw those away because we don't have room for them."

"Do you have the owners manual and any extra pads the manufacturer usually includes in the box?"

The lady couldn't find any of these items in a rather large pile of junk behind her. And it was indeed a pile. It really left an impression of laxity, poor organization, and low service skills.

SO - the service at Northern, in our experience, is poor.

Wow Herb, that certainly sounds like poor service... You should have said you were from Jersey, they love Jersey folks since most of them are from there! I've been a customer there for over 15 years and I've always had 5 star service. Maybe that's because I told them I was a former Jersey Girl!!! Have a great day.
