Report from Sugarbush

Post by SkiDork »

Got here at 10:30. Saw some meathead peeps in the parking lot. Went and got tix for Ty and Ice, I decided not to buy because I'd just be in the way up there. Steins is the only run open. Pretty nicely bumped but Iceman says they're widely spaced. One brown spot about 2/3 of the way up which they say is pretty thin. Ran into skiladi in the lodge, she went up with Ty and Ice. Then ran into Phantom while I was here surfing. He said he's pretty shot from the Nymphs party but he might decide to go out for a few runs after lunch. Him and I took a walk up to the valley house lift to scope out the scene. Ran into Mr Moose up there who had just gotten here. Ran into Win who welcomed the green shirt K refugees.

So far no Gs and Geoff but they're rumored to be on their way.

Dork, why don't you and Phantom go for a nice long walk, will do you good. I was pretty beat from yesterday, so to rest up I'm splitting wood, with a hydraulic splitter!

800 mg of ibuprofen didn't knock the swelling down in my knee enough to consider Steins so I opted out. I rode 100 yards up the driveway on my mountain bike this morning and decided that wasn't going to work today, either. I'm done for the year with Vermont skiing unless the stupidity gene kicks in and I opt for some hiking in a week when my knee has settled down.

Good day . . . got as far as the last hike up the hill to take a run . . . and decided it was best for me to sit this one out:( Knee bothered me on the hike up the hill . . . and, I would have just been in the way too . . . had lunch with skiladi, Mrskiladi, Phantom; and iceman, MrMoose and MrG joined us midway . . . sat outside later after the sun came out and warmed things up nicely . . . thanks Win for a nice end-of-the-season :Toast

Sounds like another South America or Whistler trip in the works to burn up the airline miles!

Fun day was had. Steins was in full force, so I only took a few runs or I'd have been an ibuprofen candidate as well. Lots of brown snow, I still haven't looked at my skis to see what price I paid. Quite a few other Killington folks were up there.

The mountain photographer was out, and he really liked Iceman, took several photos:

Not driving to Sugarloaf, so that's it for me..... I think.

Stopped by at KBL around 10:00. Nobody there except for Nevada West. Had a beer and headed home. My head would of not been any good on Steins.

Had a great Saturday with you all and hope to see you at Bubba fest!

Fantastic though exhausting last day at Sugarbush. Stein’s Run was the only trail open if you didn’t want to hike. Sun kept peeking in and out. By the afternoon, the bumps were big, deep, but soft and manageable. Long Trails at the Castlerock Pub were big, deep and cold. Lots of rippers out there, including many K regulars. Even saw Win rip a respectable line or two.

Thanks to Sugarbush for staying open today and helping to create the great vibe. Special thanks for running the lift until 5:00 pm.

Looking down Stein’s from the top.

Looking up Stein’s just past the brown patch. Doesn’t look too bad in this picture, but it took a few runs to figure out how to ski through the thin section.

Ski Patrol babe at the top of Stein’s – hey, she can pull my pass.

I say this as objectively as possible, but Powdr really could learn a thing or two about customer service from Sugarbush. At least on this day, the obvious passion for skiing/riding up there spilled over to produce ear to ear smiles on everyone.

Safe to say the difference between running a business with fiscal responsibility AND passion vs. just fiscal responsibility??
