Out from 9:15 to 11:30. Temps in the mid twentys at the base at my arrival and departure. Light snow began mid morning. Snowdon Poma broke again this morning, but they did fire up the Snowdon Triple.

Upper East fall was actually a little better than Rime today, with icy patches throughout Rime and only a few on Upper East Fall. Great Northern was pretty good top to bottom. Lower Bunny Buster had some nice conditions, Highline was pretty good as well. Upper Mouse Run was great, Upper Bunny Buster closed for racing stuff.

Snowmaking underway on Snowshed Slope, Yodeler, Learn To Ski Trail, maybe Highlander, Upper Skyelark, Lower Skyelark, Lower Bittersweet, Upper High Road, Highline, Lower East Fall, and Lower Chute.

How are the rocks that Puck It complained about from yesterday? Still poking out? Sufficiently buried?

Still some small rocks out and about, mostly on the lower mountain. Base depths are good down there but the rocks probably got mixed in a week or two ago when base depths were very low, and also a few days ago when there were bare spots due to running water under the trails melting holes up to the surface...

got out for a couple hours. thought highline was pretty decent. mousetrap is all bumped up. FIS was cool. northern was busy. rime was good stuff under the chair on the bottom half. upper bunny off the triple was good as well. clouds/fog rolled in shortly after i got there and i bailed...better days ahead...

yeah, there were some rocks but nothing terrible...

If a snowboarder is in front of me or to the side I assume the slobbering moron will cut from one side of the trail to the other -GSKI 1/17/12

Didn't get out until early afternoon.
The place was crawling with those PSIA pukes, but I still got a great "second shift" spot in Bay 1.
Skippy said it all in pics, so I won't talk about flat light or individual trails.

It was plenty skied off in spots and I could hear the ice, but I was demoing a pair of Volkl RaceTiger SL skis so I really didn't notice it.
What I did notice on these hard-charging race horses was how badly my early season thighs hurt after a couple of runs.
Great ski, but made for a race course. I almost got spanked hard a couple of times for not being 100% on top of these puppies at all times.

As soon as it's tree time I can get back on skis that are as fat as I am.

Yeah, they seem to be getting "standing around lessons". You rarely see them actually skiing. Last year, I noticed future snowboard instructors getting "sitting around instructions". They weren't making many turns either.

yeah, but i bet they looked pretty just standing around too, just the right standing around psia pose. they rock.

first turns are always sweet, so i'll not add to any reports as i was in that stupidly happy place to be on snow again. glad i got surgical on my edges last night though. looking good for the morning session!

doc no, if you're reading.. that dude is a high level ski racer for the category, great skier, but was surprised to hear him say "i hate powder". he seems to enjoy himself, so all's good, just wouldn't want to get so stuck in one mode of skiing. He did give me plenty of feedback on my skiing and that was helpful, but i think he nailed down why i've not liked the new boots..... longer sole length has me back from center point, need to go forward. great guy, very helpful.

Son and I drove up from Pa. for first turns of the year. Was just as SS reported. At one point, fog on FIS was thick as peanut butter. But, regardless, was a great first day.
