Okemo Chairlift Accident

Post by TheAbominableSnowman »

LUDLOW — A 5-year-old boy who fell out of a chair lift Tuesday afternoon on Okemo Mountain is in stable condition at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Okemo officials said Thursday.

Director of Marketing Scott Clarkson said he did not know where the boy was from, other than he was from out-of-state.

Clarkson said the boy was riding with his aunt and sister on the North Star Express, the main quad lift for the mountain, when he slipped out and fell approximately 25 feet.

His parents were in the quad chair behind him.

Clarkson said the boy has shown improvement since arriving at the hospital, where he was treated for a broken leg. He said doctors there are looking into performing surgery on the leg to repair the bone.

um . . I heard a more horrid version of this incident. The father was in the same chair, fell with the child and died.

Did someone get confused on the date??
Or do we have a new occurance?

In other equally timely news, I hear this young state senator from Illinois is a real up-and-comer. Oblama, or Odama... Adama? Can't recall his name right now. More information to come.

Wasn't he that guy they had give the speech at the Democratic Convention? Good talker but I doubt he'll get anywhere too fast.

BTW, I searched the Rutland Herald for any news on a skier falling and on Okemo. They go back 14 days and had nothing on it. Maybe Bubba can dig something up as he seems to know how to pull things out of that rag.

Can I please clear this up. I am a family member of those involved on Sat 19th in Okemo. A father and his 3 year old son fell from a chairlift some 25 feet up. They were taken to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Centre. The emergency treatment was excellent at the scene, and the medical care subsequently has been first rate. Both survived. The 5 year old was released today with a stiff neck but no significant damage. The father remains in hospital but is making an excellent recovery. He was admitted in a severe condition, fighting for life. Miraculously he has no broken bones. He has a punctured lung, bad abrasions and severe bruising, but his head trauma is not serious. The doctors are talking about a possible release on the weekend. Both he and his son were saved by wearing helmets.

Sadly, this isn't a joke. I found this site looking for info because my brother was there and saw it soon after it happened from the chair lift. He said it looked so bad, he wasn't sure either the boy or his father lived. He heard there were 2 ambulances at the bottom of the mountain; only 1 left quickly. I'm surprised there's nothing else online about it.

This was posted this morning on wcax. Does not specify when this happened or too many details but it confirms an incident.

Good to hear everyone is OK, and getting better. Here's to a quick and complete recovery for both of them.

The kid's OK, the father was severely hurt but recovering -- at least it could've been the other way around. Hope they both recover.

Did the lift malfunction?

I'm confused - Your posts says the boy in your family was 3 years old at first, then 5 years old down below. I'm glad if they're both on the mend, but just wanted to get the facts straight ...
