Todays Conditions Report
Quite a bit of "training closures" for a day with a limited trail count to begin with - thanks in advance for your understanding and btw- that will be $80 dollars -

I believe bum races on Wednesdays close Highline. Half day on two other trails, so you can still ski em. Reason...eh.
Though $80 for 60 trails IS steep! Lift tickets should cost a buck an open trail, until they reach regular price.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday... However if they did that they would be losing money in ticket sales, and would therefore have less money to invest in itself with things like snowmaking, etc. the saying "takes money to make money" comes to mind... Have to pay for snowmaking to make conditions worth it for the crowds of people who may choose to go somewhere else this weekendStormchaser wrote:I believe bum races on Wednesdays close Highline. fwiw, k is lagging in open terrain behind okemo, sunday river & stratton (areas i have no interest in). don't know whether that effects ticket sales.

Re: Todays Conditions Report
One must consider that those other areas might be exaggerating quite a bit in a time of weather stress in order to swerve flatlanders towards making reservations (or not cancelling them). This is critical MLK time now, and feelings & thoughts about the base and the open/closed trails today go into a customer's Presidents Week decisions, if they are not already made.
My own recent feedback from friends and some ski club members is that Killington had more base and more variety of trails before the wet hit us, so we should be ahead of those other areas. Its just hard to compare K numbers with other area numbers when different departments with different marching orders create them.

Re: Todays Conditions Report
At this point in the season, many people 'on the fence' are also beginning to get bored with the limited diversity in other resorts.
They do see that K has many pods open, and folks are aware that glacial conditions exist nearly everywhere east of the Mississippi.
Interesting to see the current condition page flipping the weather as Sn'ing/Rn'ing.
There appears to be no cloud whatsoever over the basin today

I'd add that it is much easier to open and recover icy BLUE trails, than it is BLACK and DOUBLE BLACK trails. Also, I don't ski those other places often enough to know how much natural and gladed terrain exists at those places, which needs mo na to fix...da Pimp wrote:One must consider that those other areas might be exaggerating quite a bit in a time of weather stress in order to swerve flatlanders towards making reservations (or not cancelling them). It's bluebird sky here - conditions on the Snowdon side of the mountain are quite good ... If I knew how to post a pic, you'd be pleased at the amount of snow up here at the peak .... It's quite beautiful!!
Re: Todays Conditions Report
Stormmeister ... "gladed terrain" ... would you please define that in a 2014 context
Even the Jay Peak guys are relegated to cordura ... but the Water Park is a Rockin

We all know the woods ain't the woods at these places. Is my terminology outdated or is it the terrain? OH!brownman wrote:Stormmeister ... "gladed terrain" ... would you please define that in a 2014 context

All I meant was non-snowmaking, non-groomed terrain. How much of that is open at the places with "more terrain"?

Re: Todays Conditions Report
Thanks for clarifying ... for us, glade terrain thusfar has principally involved the NR2.5 lift
Hoping 'Mona' is done with her 'fixing'.
She appears far more fickle than usual this season.
Mr. Natural, please step up and mitigate the mess.

You get what you get at Okemo and at the K. Okemo is consistent and the K it's pot luck at the times. Okemo can recoup quicker during thaw freeze cycles for sure. Enjoy where ever you go.

Mountain actually skied surprising well today. ESPECIALLY BearBurstSkyeClaw in the AM. Fresh groomed softened nicely in the sunshine and produced hero snow. Most other areas skied firm-and-fast and by PM many runs were skied off. Comfortable temps and very little wind. Lots of smiling faces today after yesterday. Much better day than expected.
