No Reavis ... no repeat
He and Browner both are today free to seek 'titles' elsewhere
I can see the Pats doing without the Browner penalties...but
Is Malcolm Butler good enuf to replace either of them

Browner is NOT free. He has another year left on his contract but the Pats told him he could look for a trade of some sort but he is still under contract.brownman wrote:He and Browner both are today free to seek 'titles' elsewhere

You are correct, he 'taxed' them all season.
There are other lanky tough guys.
Point is ... Reavis is the catalyst.

The Patriots won their 3rd Super Bowl with Ty Law out for most of the season, Randall Gay and Asante Samuel at cornerback, Earthwind Moreland at safety, and Troy Brown as nickel back. Gay didn't even dress for the first few games of the season. Samuel was the 4th cornerback and only played dime packages. Moreland was a practice squad player. Troy Brown was a wide receiver playing emergency defensive back. With that secondary, they went 14-2, crushed Manning at home in the AFC divisional series, whipped Rapistburger on the road in the ALCS game, and hung in there while McNabb choked in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl.brownman wrote:You are correct, he 'taxed' them all season.

Everybody would prefer to have Revis playing corner but New England makes the playoffs every year having a roster stuffed with well coached high-average players rather than a few high paid superstars and a bunch of stiffs. Tom Brady, Stephen Gostkowski, Rob Gronkowski , Darrelle Revis and Matthew Slater made the pro bowl. That's 2 offensive skill players, 2 special teamers who don't make huge money, and Revis. New England had the youngest average age of any team to ever win the Super Bowl. Revis's $20 million per year buys a heck of a lot of good free agent talent if he goes elsewhere. All that youth means New England has a lot of cap space. They can sign him if they want to.

I feel like I'm a broken record, but I'd love to see Revis in Philly. Philly would love him. I can't see it happening after we signed Maxwell tho

Why would he want to go there?XtremeJibber2001 wrote:I feel like I'm a broken record, but I'd love to see Revis in Philly. Philly would love him. I can't see it happening after we signed Maxwell tho
Phila has no chance of winning anything or probably even making the playoffs.
They would have to just blow him away with a 60 million or so guaranteed offer and they don't have that kinda money.
BTW, who's their QB ?

The Eagles are not the Jets or the Titans. They ended the year a 10-6 team, but were 9-3 the week of Thanksgiving. They largely crapped the bed as a result of their awful corners. I think it's a pretty bold statement to say they probably won't make the play-offs.SnoBrdr wrote:Why would he want to go there?XtremeJibber2001 wrote:I feel like I'm a broken record, but I'd love to see Revis in Philly. Chip has what he needs to get Mariota. They're $50+ million under the cap. Draft hasn't even happened yet.

Problem is that they play in the same division as the Cowboys and the Giants.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:The Eagles are not the Jets or the Titans. Mariota? How do you figure the Eagles can ever reach him.

You mean those teams the Eagles were 3 for 4 against?SnoBrdr wrote:Problem is that they play in the same division as the Cowboys and the Giants.

I have no idea how they will reach him, but I think Chip goes for it.
Re: No Reavis ... no repeat
One mock draft has them trading with Jacksonville and moving up to 3.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:You mean those teams the Eagles were 3 for 4 against?SnoBrdr wrote:Problem is that they play in the same division as the Cowboys and the Giants.

But then Tennessee would have to pass on a QB and the writer doesn't say what Phily would have to trade. You'd have to think it would be at least 2 #1s plus others.
Is Phily willing to do that ?

Haha - I'm not sure Philly is, but I think Chip is willing. I mean, a coach needs his guy back there in the pocket. Like Belicheck says, if you want me to cook dinner then you've got to let me buy the groceries.SnoBrdr wrote:One mock draft has them trading with Jacksonville and moving up to 3.XtremeJibber2001 wrote:You mean those teams the Eagles were 3 for 4 against?SnoBrdr wrote:Problem is that they play in the same division as the Cowboys and the Giants.

Pats refused the option on Browner and he is now a FA.
