K area backountry skiing

Has anybody ever hiked up and skied the mountain across the road from Skyeship? It looks pretty steep - might be a good place to go after some heavy snowfall.

What do you mean by East Mountain? Is that the name of the mountain we're talking about across from skyeship?Woodsrider wrote:Yes. And yes it is steep and awesome. There are areas that are better than others to drop In. Lots of good shoots. The whole ridge line along East Mountain (not east mountain rd) is good. Although shuttle runs off East mountain rd are good too.
Morgans Peak at the Rt4/100 intersection is awesome too.
In a good snow year the BC around K is awesome.
Yes and no. It's a long and pretty boring slog out to Wheelerville and you need a car there. It is much easier to go off the backside and skin back up (and have a run down the front side to finish).bruceol wrote:I wann aski down to Wheelerville road..Anybody out there that has done it ?? is it good???

Gotta disagree on some of that. Yes you do need to leave a car at Wheelerville parking lot. Yes the best skiing is all in the first mile (a bit less actually). If you don't mind skinning back up a steep slope the lines are great.ejrides wrote:Yes and no. It's a long and pretty boring slog out to Wheelerville and you need a car there. OK. I am impressed you did those projects, So a couple questions( PM answers if you wish) first... coming off Morgans Peak Ridge where/how do you do you get across Reservoir Brook?Woodsrider wrote:Yes. and....is it easier to skin up the frontside of the East Mountain ridge or to be dropped in off one of the roads that feed ln from the back?

Woodsrider, mind sending me the same PM you sent to Sgt? I'm headed up there this weekend and would like to get some recon hikes in. Thanks.Woodsrider wrote:PM sentSgt Eddy Brewers wrote:OK. Only did it once last year, it was pretty well sign posted, but crossing the brook was dicey in a few places. Skinning back up on the Ridge Run side is pretty easy, coming back up to Juggernaut has a few steep sections that can be tough. Both are faster (to me anyway) and usually have a skin track, and also allow for a few hot laps.Sgt Eddy Brewers wrote: Gotta disagree on some of that. If you ski out its more than three miles and unless the snow truly sucks it is fun. A lot like Juggernaut but even wilder. And you can get lost and thus die out there. Lots of skiers drop the back and require rescue. Don't be that skier.
If you know what you are doing it is fun. Bruceol PM me, or any others, for the route description or a buddy run when the snow gets deep.
