New T on Headwall

Post by TucoTheRat »

I say they put a tee bar up the headwall,.... maybe extedinng 500 yards past the crossover. It would be awesome to hit it over and over again w/o going down to the base. Maybe a Lil T might be a great place to train your steep sklils? Over

There's a Dream Maker headwall. Good luck with your T-bar idea.

A simple short and sweet poma going up from high traverse next to upper cascade, ending at the little flat are on the side of the peak lodge. Do laps on upper cascade or downdraft, and get access to the peak lodge without getting in the nasty K1 queue. Just run a bit more snowmaking up there and it will be a hit for the majority of the season.

The peak will need a lift from High Traverse when they add a 3rd, 4th, and 5th floor to the lodge. It doesn't improve traffic flow, nor does it increase ROI. Would like to see a surface lift to the true top of Ramshead though.

That's a great picture - notice no pine trees at the bottom ....

Must have been one heck of a ride going up that cliff - not touron friendly for sure - they were tougher back then than the heated seat and bubble chair crowd.

The thing about surface lifts is that you can unload almost anywhere there's room. I would guess it was extremely common for intermediates to unload before the steep pitch.

I say replace the K1 gondola with a T bar! Maybe put a T bar at Bear to replace the quad. Make it 3 sections and run it all the way to the top of Southridge! Feel free to unload whenever you like!

I'd love to see a Lift extension back to the top of Rams Head. Obviously, it was shortened to create that "Family" ski area that was conceived back in the early 90's.

I remember my first time at Killington... 1985... parked at Rams Head, and took that Rams head lift...(double I think back then). It was only the 2nd mountain I ever visited up to that point (was a Wachusett Mountain brat). When the lift approached the mogul run (or the headwall) I saw a guy that had a serious "yard sale" at the bottom. (you still call it that now? LOL.) Very bloodied, and ski patrol next to him. At that point, I knew my friend and I were going to have a fun day and I was in love with Killington! If I remember right, that lift was extremely high at the end... very high with a lot of nets below the lift chairs in case someone fell off when they lift the bar. That was one HELL of a run down those moguls that day... my first time on any serious mogul run since the best Wachusett had was Smith Walton.

And, of course my favorite runs that day were all around South Ridge. There was an intermediate glade in the middle of that Triple chair that I loved...

A lot has changed since then. I miss that LONG ASS Killington peak double chair. I think a lot of the mystery, the romance, and the sheer size of Killington was truly gone when that double was removed. It is too quick to get to the peak on that gondola.... They should have left the old gondola... repaired it or improved it...

The long ride on that gondola really created a lot of the majesty of what Killington was. The long Double, the long cold ride, approaching the peak on that chair... who could not be in total AWE. All that was lost when the gondola was installed.

After skiing K for almost 32 years, if I had my wish, it would be to:
- Install a new lift in Southridge in the exact spot of the prior lift.
- Extend the Skyeship Gondola back to the peak.
- Install a Quad in the exact same spot as the old killington double.
- Eliminate snowboarders from double-black runs and glades. (Sorry boarders but it ruins the cover on those type of fragile trails. Black Diamond and lower is fine. We all know the limited thin cover.)
- Move the Killington Gondola and extend the cables for to be used for a KILLINGTON-PICO CONNECT !!!!!!
- Lastly... STOP THE BUILDING!!! STOP the MADNESS!!!

Why over-build? It hurts the local businesses. It Takes money out of the pockets of local business owners. Don't build the business center at the bottom of Rams Head... Give low-rate loans to small business owners on the access road to improve their own businesses. Leave the road alone... don't expand or widen it. It's the local businesses that give Killington the "small town feel". If K is made into a major attraction (bigger than it is already) it's the small businesses that get hurt. First comes major investment groups in chain stores, then local stores are closed or bought out. Then eventually, all money spent at K leaves the state. I see it happening. Too many ski areas through-out New England are succumbing to growing pains, competing against other ski areas for market share. It only gets worse from their.

Sorry for the rant... this is my first post ever on here.
At the end of the day, I guess I'm a skier that reminisces too much.
See you on the slopes.

The snowshed headwall is the only headwall worth putting a t-bar on!
